We have ONE top line winger on our team.....shipping him out is not going to bring back more.

He's also very much a team first, organization, community, person. Loved in the room.

But yeah. Let's move him quick.
Well, hopefully with DeBrusk we have at least 2 (if you mean top 6 which surely you must when discussing Brock... )

Judgement on any Boeser trade would have to be assessed when reviewing the line up post deal, not before it may (or may not) occur.

Hockey Widow wrote: Mon Jul 01, 2024 5:15 pm They did better than I expected TBH. The Debrusk contract to me isn't a bad contract. Its right where it should be for his average points and defensive play. Plus he has begun to emerge as a good PKer. Sure a 5-6 year deal would have been nice but we don't get him without 7 years. Both Calgary and Edmonton kicked the tires as it was known he wanted to be closer to home and come to the West. But neither team offered 7 years. So the price we pay to get him. He is moveable after his NMC is done and by then the Cap should be at 1 billion per year. So I don't think it is a bad contract at all.

Getting two big guys on D, one lefty and one righty, was impressive. Neither may bring what Big Z did overall but combined they provide depth, defensive experience, PK ability, shutdown roles. So good signings.

Sherwood I love that signing. So does Quinn  Heinen I don't know much about but he brings speed, defensive play, pk experience and a desire to come home.

Patera, what's not to like at $775,000 per year? Allows us to have completion at camp. It allows us to park Silovs in Abbotsford for one more year, maybe. If Silovs makes the team then we have a very good experienced AHLer backing up the 2 kids.

I liked that we didn't blow 7-9 million on one player on a long term 7 year deal. I liked that we used the money wisely to fill several holes. I liked how we have bought time for development of the younger players like Lekemakki, Willander, DPetty, and perhaps to some extent Silovs. I like how we are mindful of the OEL jump the next two years and kept contracts reasonable.

Allvin did say the one thing he would like to do is to not be playing in LTIR. He talked about how it makes it tough to make deals with that hanging over the team and more importantly how it hampers the team from calling up young kids to give them a taste. My take is that he is still very active in looking for ways to dump the Poolman contract. I mean seriously if he could dump that contract plus lose one of, Aman, PDG, Friedman or Podkolzin then we have 3M+ of cap space.

He also said if a deal presents itself that makes sense they will look at it so you know they would still like to upgrade, especially on D, but the deals to make sense on so many levels.

And next year just got easier with respect to UFAs. Up front, Boeser, PDG and Suter are UFA, Hoglander RFA. On the back end, Forbort, Juulsen and Friedman are UFA, no RFAs. Goalies set. So next year we should have more cap space anf fewer FA to worry about. Allvin has bought development time.
Well said HW. It’s a long term vision for the team and they will have the flexibility again next year to continue to improve the team while hopefully having guys a prospect or two ready to join as well. It’s the way it should have been done for the last decade and it’s fun to see.

I do think they will add more either before the season or perhaps during. As we’ve seen they aren’t scared to make moves and they’ll keep going.

The knock on Debrusk is he's great one game out of 10 then dormant the other 9. In that one game he could get a hatty or 4+ pts then go long stretches where's he's invisible.

That said he scores big goals when games are on the line. There is still some scoring upside if he buys into the cult of Ricky Tocchet. It wouldn't be all that surprising to see him have 2-3 big years and score 30+ goals/70+ pts for us. He's got a shot and hella quick feet.

No. I mean top line. Brock was top-20 in points among wingers this year and top-10 in goals.

There are 64 top line wingers in the league.

It's pretty simple.

If he's inconsistent but putting up 25 goals, he's just fitting the bill of a 2nd line wing. If he wasn't inconsistent then he'd be a 1st line making $8+

We'll have to see how inconsistent he is I guess..

Chef is on the side of not trading Boeser. Always has been. He’s well liked in the room, he’s often mentioned his desire to stay here, loves the city and fans, he’s a great teammate, helluva playoff performer. Sign the fucker.

Ok.

.....I misread the last line as somewhat condescending then.

Apologies.

Depending on how any more moves go, I'd like to see them get Garland in to the top 6.

I know he played well on the third line, but that was really just on paper. Our 2nd line was so below average I don't think it was a true 2nd line/ 3rd line.

I'd get some combo of Miller, Boeser, Petey, Debrusk, Garland.. with a 6th spot open for another move or you see who's best of Hogz, Podz, Joshua, etc.. Much prefer those 3 in the bottom 6 but maybe someone comes to camp and elevates their game.

DeBrusk Miller Boeser

Garland Petterson Necas

Joshua Bleuger Heinen

Sherwood Suter Podz

......move Hogs out of here now

Lekkerimaki replaces Boeser next year.

Necas ain't UFA. who are you giving up to get him? Can they be a straight swap?

Otherwise we have next to no prospects to trade.

Will still need 1-2 top 6 wings after this plan too..

We have things to trade.

Just whether we want to or not.
