Of that list you have to go with Meyers which blows.

My split them up rant included a Trouba acquisition btw....

So Cap Friendly has us at $535,000 over the cap but with 14 forwards and 8 Dmen. 2 goalies. So someone will need to be moved/waived. Candidates, Aman, PDG, Friedman. We just need to waive one of them before the season starts then place Poolman on LTIR. With the current roster we can carry a full compliment of 23. So someone still needs to be off the roster. That one move would give us about $300,000 in cap space plus the Poolman LTIR if we need it.

Still the chance of a minor trade. Would love to move the Poolman contract. Be good if we could move it without adding to much. If we could move Poolman along with say Aman that would give us just under 3M in cap. But unless there is someone who we covet right now I guess we are in no hurry. The Poolman cap hindered our ability at the TDD so I'd love to see us get out from under that to give us a little breathing room.

Whew! I was a bit concerned about the depth too until this signing.

I'll be honest, watching Desharnais in EDM trying to protect the house early in the season under their porous defensive system, with cherry-picking forwards and braindead Dmen... I wasn't exactly jumping up and down. But he is huge, a bit mean and is cheap NHL-proven depth. I have faith that our staff will be able to buff him to a lustrous shine.

Yes, Zads and Cole would make the D corp better, but we needed to improve the forward depth just as bad. This was the best balance and compromise considering the money available.

Nothing stupid. Nothing crazy. Just a really understated and competent job by management on this UFA day.

Should have signed Hakanpaa not Desharnais.

I wouldn’t go by Capfriendly as they also have Tolopilo on the roster which obviously won’t happen. As you said somebody has to come off if they add. By my calculations you could add almost a $4 million player if you’re removing a minimum salary and of course more if you remove a higher paid player.

Desharnais will be better here in the Van system where it’s very specific on reads for Dmen. Edmonton’s system seems to be watch McDavid and Draisaitl carry the puck up and react to what happens - they don’t really stay in a spot. It’s quite a bit different and big dmen will do better here.

Good time to wait and see what happens next. My guess is we’ll see at least one more player added before the season starts.

I'd be looking to move out Hoglander, Podkolzin, Aman, PDG and Boeser.

Hakanpaa is a slightly better player but he’s so injury prone I can understand why they went with Vince. Both do pretty much the same thing so I’m happy they got one of them.

They show Tolopilo as a non roster so Abbotsford. Silovs isn't yet listed as he is unsigned. Here is who they list:

Forwards:

Pettersson
Miller
Boeser
Debrusk
Joshua
Garland
Heinen
Blugeger
Hoglander
Podkolzin
Suter
Sherwood
Aman
PDG

Defence:

Hughes
Hronek
Soucy
Myers
Friedman
Juulsen
Desharnais
Forbort

Goalies:

Demko
Patera

So that is a roster of 24 players, one over the limit. With these players we are $535K over the cap. So obviously you get compliant by dropping one of those guys. That should leave us with just over $300K of cap space plus the Poolman 2.5 M if we need it. There are some bottom six players we could move out to make a little more space and if in doing so we could move Poolman I'd be all for it. That would get us to the 3.5-4.5 of cap space depending upon who we moved, how many. Enough to add another top 9 player.

4 years in the league playing 57 82 80 and 64 games and to be called injury prone I think might be a tough slander DH.

Haakanpa is no offensive demon I agree but he has some ability and handles and moves the puck better than Desharnais imo.

Jani can manage top 4 minutes if he has to and could play with Hughes in a pinch.

Vinnie I don't think so.

Hence my pronouncement.

Edit....sorry year 1 57 games and injured this post season...so you may have a point if year 1 was injury or just newbie.

In looking the roster who is Pettersson going to play with? Debrusk would fit nicely with Boeser and Miller. Heinen is really a 3rd line type. Should be interesting. Rutherford did say to not count our Likemyassi from making the team. So we may stillstruglle to score goals and on the PP.
