"The Canucks joined the NHL in 1970 and are the longest-serving NHL team to never have the top pick in the draft."
Brian Burke briefly acquired Tampa's 1st overall pick before flipping it as a symbolic gesture to Atlanta on the promise they would not draft a Sedin. So technically, we've had a 1st overall for about 2 seconds... in the worst draft in NHL history.

Getting the Sedin twins was a huge draft win for the Canucks, so I don't think it was the worst draft in NHL history.

Yes, you touched a nerve but it's all in good fun.
Despite the HOF twins, 1999 is acknowledged by all NHL personnel and media as one of the, if not, the worst draft of all time in the history of the amateur draft.

A Will Smith and Celebrini one two punch down the middle is a nice thing to build around. Left winger Eklund is starting to prove why he was drafted high, add in Left winger prospect Quentin Musty and these two future star centres form a couple of nice lines in the future. Great looking building blocks in San Jose I’ll say.
