Re: Canucks News N Notes 2020-2021
Nice job Benning.
I think he would have gotten around 3m if it had gone to arbitration.
Being under the 2.6m mark was significant. If Ferland is playing they only have to send one extra player down instead of two, and go with a 22 man roster.
I expect Ferland will be out, so it probably doesn’t matter.
Good news for the critically endangered Save Shotgun Jake Club.

Before the RFA signings, I figured that 2019-20 Stetch + VIrtanen + Gaudette + Motte would equal an AAV of 2020-21 Virtanen + Motte + Gaudette. I was off, it was cheaper. By about the difference between 2019-20 Markstom and 2020-21 Holtby.
JB did a good job with this. He selecting the right players to let walk (Stech because he wasn't worth the QO, as the free market demonstrated; Markstom because he wasn't good enough for the retirement contract for a team with backup ready to be promoted in that time and an excellent plan B). And he signed the RFAs to reasonable and even a bit team friendly deals.
At the end of the day, take a step back. With a flat cap, this is a slightly better team than the one that started last season.

At least it means LE can get minored. I hope! Hard to believe Zack MacEwen would most likely be next in line.
Geez, (and this is just joking), If it wasn't a good match with Horvat and Pearson on a regular basis, would that mean Brock slots in there and
JV gets to play on line 1 ?

I will go ahead and say that this team is, right now, quite a bit better seeing as their primary acquisition shored up the franchises most glaring weakness with a premium solution...defense. Tanev/Stetcher out < Schmidt/internal promotion.UWSaint wrote: ↑Thu Oct 22, 2020 11:11 am Before the RFA signings, I figured that 2019-20 Stetch + VIrtanen + Gaudette + Motte would equal an AAV of 2020-21 Virtanen + Motte + Gaudette. The loss of Toffoli stings offensively but his presence wasn't a solution to getting pucks out of danger and up the ice.
Of course this is assuming Demko wasnt overreaching with his coming out party and is a legit 60 game/year goalie.

LE was always going to get minored if he's still here.

I would prefer he gets the "Tonya Harding" medical treatment and ends up on LTIR.Strangelove wrote: ↑Thu Oct 22, 2020 11:32 amLE was always going to get minored if he's still here.

If he hits that at that cap him why wouldn’t we keep him?

Re: Canucks News N Notes 2020-2021
Jake Virtanen talks for almost 20 minutes on Sportsnet radio and didn't even mention this:
contract structure..
2020-21: $1.7M
2021-22: $3.4M
Talked plenty on how much JT miller had been helping him this season.Jeff Paterson @patersonjeff
Tyler Myers is apparently taking on the Tanev 'dad' role. Virtanen works out with him every morning in Kelowna: 'he treats me like his son'

Quite a bit better? That’s a stretch. I’d still like to see another veteran defender brought in.The Brown Wizard wrote: ↑Thu Oct 22, 2020 11:24 amI will go ahead and say that this team is, right now, quite a bit better seeing as their primary acquisition shored up the franchises most glaring weakness with a premium solution...defense. Schmidt >>> Tanev
Olaf/Cafferty/Brisebois << Stecher
Demko << Marky
Hawryluk <<< Toffoli
Leivo and Fantenberg are gone as well. The depth has taken a big hit. I think improvements can be made from within with guys like Petey, Hughes, Demko, Boeser improving. Shaggy Jake who the hell knows?
I hope Elmer isn’t done with this roster.

Re: Canucks News N Notes 2020-2021
Not getting into whether Juolevi, Rafferty or Brisebois (is he even next on the depth chart?) are or will be better than 14-minute Stecher, but Toffoli was a short-term player to replace the injured Boeser, then got hurt for most of the playoffs.Doyle Hargraves wrote: ↑Thu Oct 22, 2020 11:51 amQuite a bit better?
