If that's the case, I'd rather have Holtby at $4.3x2 and running him and Demko.

It's actually not finalized yet, the mongoloids are getting antsy.Curmudgeon wrote: ↑Fri Oct 09, 2020 11:01 amIf that's the case, I'd rather have Holtby at $4.3x2 and running him and Demko.
Good job Marky! Milk them for all your worth! You have all the leverage in this negotiation!

If he does go there, hope the pre Ian Clark Marky makes a return.Raging Fury wrote: ↑Fri Oct 09, 2020 11:06 amIt's actually not finalized yet, the mongoloids are getting antsy.Curmudgeon wrote: ↑Fri Oct 09, 2020 11:01 amIf that's the case, I'd rather have Holtby at $4.3x2 and running him and Demko.

Re: Around the league (signings, RFAs injuries)
There's only 4 Dmen signed, Kylington needs a new deal, and there's only one RD under contract. I don't follow closely enough to know, are any RD prospects penciled in to the NHL lineup? But even if they are, that's $2 mil in cap space for two ELC RD.
There's also only 9 NHL forwards signed, and I was fairly sure there aren't any forwards on the farm penciled in to graduate to the Bigs. Maybe one ELC player rotates is as the 13th/14th forward?
That's a lot of bodies to find, and not a lot of money.

Regarding Markstrom
I wanted him back but glad Vancouver walked away now.Friedman says CGY/Markstrom grinding away over 7th yr. Flames willing to go 6, Markstrom pushing for 7.
Where else is he getting 7 yrs now?

Re: Around the league (signings, RFAs injuries)
Is there an Eastern team wanting Marky and able to pay his demands?
I hope he's grinding the Flames and Oilers only as leverage.

Rumour earlier today that Carolina made a play for him.Carl Yagro wrote: ↑Fri Oct 09, 2020 11:51 am Is there an Eastern team wanting Marky and able to pay his demands?

Marky played himself into his final payday contract. He deserves it and I wish him well, just not too well. No way Benning could have, or should have, offered 6x6, or 7, with a full NMC. The team has groomed Demko for this moment. I'm ok with Holtby as the mentor/backup for next year and probably the one after as I doubt he is selected by Seattle. Its Demko time!!
And to Benning bashers, no, this has nothing to do with our cap problems but everything to do with expansion and the development of Demko.

A shame we couldn't have picked up something for Marky on his way out, but that's life. There's a reason we drafted goalies, and Demko gave a us a glimpse of the future. He'll age with the core and do well.
Holtby will be a great mentor and Ian Clark should help him make the most of his 2 years here.
Goaltending is set. (D is another matter... :/ )

...he's looking for a retirement-style contract?

Agree HW.
With the Seattle expansion looming, I had hope that this was the plan all along. No doubt Marky contributed hugely to this organization, especially in the last few years, but when (if ever) did we have a young core like this? All drafted and developed by the Canucks.
Dump a few more of the onerous contracts and we are good for a lengthy run of being a competitive team.

Shattenkirk to Anaheim, 3x$3.9 mil. Pretty decent number and term, IMO.

Re: Around the league (signings, RFAs injuries)
Agreed. My preference was to find out if Demko was the real deal last season then make a decision based upon that. During the season he looked good and bad but Green never really gave him the chance to play the number of games he needed. Then the incredible 3 game performance in the playoffs opened eyes, real wide. The only way I wanted to keep Markstrom as our long term guy was if owe traded Demko as part of a very good package to both clear a bad contract or get assets at another position. No way could you run with both if you had to protect Markstrom for the ED. Right or wrong, good or bad, Benning has made his choice and he will live or die by how Demko does over the next 1-2 years.Carl Yagro wrote: ↑Fri Oct 09, 2020 12:05 pm Agree HW.

Did I mention that I really like having a decisive GM. He doesn't always get it right but he is decisive.

31 years old and a terrible last couple of years. Ya! Tanev will be in demand. I remember him saying after the playoffs, probably out of emotion" that all he wanted was to stay with Vancouver.
