Too much at stake in the Toronto pressure cooker. Another early exit, he’s as good as goneBlob Mckenzie wrote: ↑Sun Aug 11, 2019 7:54 pm Much as I’d like to see Barrie here, Vancouver likely won’t have the cap space.
And although I think Dubas has stubbed his toe a bit, he isn’t on any hot seat yet.
Barrie is an easy peasy signing for Benning. He desperately wants to play here, who would’nt with what Benning has done here. Tanev will be gone and Sutter gonzo as well. That’s $8 schillings right there alone.

Barrie would look wicked on the canucks power play and breakouts. If hes available you make the room. Imagine a Barrie in his prime and Hughes reaching his.

Re: The Official CC "All Thing Leaves" thread
When I talk to folks back East they all say the same things.
They love the Tavares signing. They love his heart and desire to win. They love that he wanted to play for the leaves.
They agree that Dumbass should have either traded Nylander last summer, before he sat out. Or he should never have capitulated to his demands and let him sit out the year. He needed to send a message to all the players. Well he did, he sent the message that he will cave and that’s not lost on the players and there agents.
They have tired of Mariner. Whereas they don’t see Tavares as being selfish for not giving a hometown discount, and whereas they love Matthews and don’t see him as selfish, they see Mariner as a selfish prick. They say he needs to put the team first and sign at a reasonable amount.
A lot are now psychologically preparing for the worst. One does this by undermining the player. You know. “ he’s only had one good year”, or “ he’s no where near as good, or important to the team as Matthews or Tavares.” “He only got as many points as he did because of who he played with” and “ he doesn’t make players around him better whereas Matthews and Tavares do.”
There is speculation that the leaves secretly hope he signs an offer sheet from hell. Dumbass can come out and say he tried his hardest but Mariner just wanted too much. Now if the rumours are true he wants 13M for 4-5 years only then I’d stay away. Giving up 4 picks for a guy who you know will want a ton more than 13M next contract or he will walk is a steep price to pay.

Re: The Official CC "All Thing Leaves" thread
It doesn't matter what Matthews, marner, JT or Nylander make, leaves are not wasting a massive amount of their cap on avergae to mediocre players like the Canucks.
When Auston Matthews gets named your worst contract, you are in pretty damn good shape. LOL
Just look at some of the contrcats in the East on Buffalo, Montreal, Islanders, Pens, ETC. JUst awful.

Pretty easy to target 3 or 4 players in the playoffs, LOL.BigTuna wrote: ↑Mon Aug 12, 2019 3:03 pm It doesn't matter what Matthews, marner, JT or Nylander make, Leaves are not wasting a massive amount of their cap on avergae to mediocre players like the Canucks.

When you have a massive 50% or more of your cap going to 4 players, the rest of your team is going to be way below average to beyond mediocre.

I also question the wisdom of paying for depth, but overpaying for depth or paying the wrong guys is the same as overpaying for good players when they become RFAs (or UFAs). At the end of the day, there are only so many players you can have be part of your post-ELC core and when $$ are wasted wherever they are wasted that number decreases.BigTuna wrote: ↑Mon Aug 12, 2019 3:03 pm It doesn't matter what Matthews, marner, JT or Nylander make, Leaves are not wasting a massive amount of their cap on avergae to mediocre players like the Canucks.

Yeah, even though I’m not a fan of the way the leaves are conducting their business, some posters have the blinders on when looking at Vancouver’s cap structure.

Canucks' structure will be fine, but we're off-topic so I'm taking this conversation over here:Blob Mckenzie wrote: ↑Mon Aug 12, 2019 3:33 pm Yeah, even though I’m not a fan of the way the Leaves are conducting their business, some posters have the blinders on when looking at Vancouver’s cap structure.

Those pukebags at TSN have devoted half of an hour show to the Blue Jays, the Raptors and the leaves. What a disgrace. They race through all the other MLB highlights and tennis and other shit but they have to cram all the Toronto shit down everyone’s yaps.
Fucking brutal

Ah, come on. Nylander had one bad season, after having sat out half of it because of the contract issues.
He is basically a 20 goal 60 points kind of guy. We're talking Parise, Horvat, Nyquist, Kopitar, Tatar territory.
He is probably a bit overpaid, but he is not a bum and he is just 23, so he may not even have hit his peak yet.
Could still develop into a 80-90 points guy for all we know.
He was the best player on Team Sweden in the recent World Championship, and scored more points than any other player participating there, even though he played two games less than most of the others in the top ten.
And in 2017, when Sweden won the World Championship, he was named tournament MVP.
I know he is a Leaf, but that doesn't have to mean he is all bad. I'd love to have him on my team.
