Tanev has played an entire season exactly once in his career, this one and it isnt over yet.

I would love to hang onto him but he wants his big payday and honestly he isnt worth it. If he comes in at 4 then its a totally different story but hes likely looking for Myers cash.

I’d move on from Tanev at much over 5. He’s a better player than Myers, but he isn’t getting any younger. Just because they overpaid Myers doesn’t mean they need to do the same with a declining Tanev.

His stats sure don’t show him as very good. His last 2 years his numbers are brutal. He got carried by Hughes this year so he looked a little better. It’s definitely time to move on from him, unless he’s willing to sign a 3 million deal and play bottom pairing.

Myers gets PP time Cholla. Tanev does not. Who played with Hughes more frequently against the other teams best players? Who was he on the ice with more? There were also a couple games where Tanev played a handful of shifts and then was shut down or Injured. That and the PP time is enough to skew the numbers.

We were talking about who was the team’s current best D man this past year. Tanev is a better player than Myers. Full stop. He plays against far better competition in a shutdown role. Dick was trolling the fuck out of the place saying he’s a third pairing scrub. That’s idiotic. He’s still a solid player. That said I am leery of committing to him long term due to injuries and age.
