Re: Canucks Young Guns
The assumptions around here of Gaudette going back to college is funny. I think there's a good chance the kid could sign this summer

Canucks have until summer-2019 to sign Boeser and avoid the Vesey situation.Island Nucklehead wrote: You absolutely sign him and burn a year of that ELC. The last thing we want is him pulling a Vesey and walking as a UFA.
The big deal with the youngsters is not the ELC, it's the years of NHL service towards unrestricted free agency.
And while I appreciate that "years of NHL service towards unrestricted free agency" is a consideration, its equally important to have contributing roster players on rookie cap hits.
Eg. Pittsburgh had Rust, Maata, Murray, Sheary and Dumoulin contributing on rookie deals.

Sure, it's not like he'll walk away this summer (or next) if we don't sign him. But you don't want him entering his final year of college thinking about rookie max-dollars and the chance to go wherever they want. Sign him this year, avoid the drama, and keep him developing.ESQ wrote: Canucks have until summer-2019 to sign Boeser and avoid the Vesey situation.

Unless he's a superstar, his RFA/bridge contract isn't likely to cause us problems. He might be around $1.7-$2M on his ELC when rookie bonuses are factored in. So if he's a real solid player for us by the end of his deal he's looking at what? $3.5M on a bridge? Should we be afraid of that kind of deal, to the point of keeping him away from the big club, when we desperately lack what he could bring?
Re: Canucks Young Guns
Not even close to this kind of thinking yet - if you're Boeser do you wait 2 years and lose that income and be 2 years behind your peak earning years? Not going to happen. Gaudette is in the same boat, 2 more years of college after this if he wants to go the FA route. Won't happen.Island Nucklehead wrote:Sure, it's not like he'll walk away this summer (or next) if we don't sign him. I'm looking forward to seeing what both can do in the pros in the near future.
Re: Canucks Young Guns
Obviously you sign the college players when they're ready to sign.
I'm just saying don't throw them in the AHL for the last 6 weeks of this season and burn a year, sign them in the offseason.

Re: Canucks Young Guns
The ELC doesn't take presidence when you have a top prospect in college, you tie them up to a contract as fast as you can because of the "college loophole" We ard still protected with these two for two more seasons, can't see them staying the college term, they're too good. The Veseys, Stechers and Ashton-Reese's are late bloomers who needed the whole college term to developESQ wrote:Obviously you sign the college players when they're ready to sign.

Re: Canucks Young Guns
Yup first order of business should be to sign Boeser asap when you can after his season is over, ya don't mess around with these college stars.

Case in point...
IF we can sign him, between he and Gaudette you hope one can become a #2C playmaking/scoring pivot.
Oh yeah Kerfoot pops is also the owner of the Vancouver Whitecaps, so more leverage for the Canucks IF Kerfoot becomes a UFA.

Alexander Kerfoot is a smart, assist machine, not a scorer or two-way menace, just a good floor general, in any case a center we really need - a natural playmaker (that Kerfoot is) to center all these winger prospects we're stockpiling.Alex Kerfoot. Harvard University. Jersey draft pick. Darren Dreger reported on NBC last night Kerfoot is planning to go free agent. Dreger said to watch for the Canucks because Kerfoot is from BC.

Can the Canucks just win a Cup within the next 5 years.

Jonathan Dahlen 3G 2A last night.
Corey Pronman: Van's Jon Dahlen with one of best performances I've ever seen from a player this young in the Allsvenskan.

Re: Canucks Young Guns
The move where he is heading around the net, but stops up. has the goalie moving to the other side of the net and then jams it in the short side is a high end move. Wow

Re: Canucks Young Guns
This Dahlen kid really impressed me at the WJC's. He's really having a good year, the Senators may regret trading him.

Re: Canucks Young Guns
Thanks, Zemtac!
Definitely good to see the prospect pool deepen and see some of these young guys performing well at the lower levels. Hopefully this success will translate to the NHL (and soonish) as we can use all the help we can get.
