The primary goal of this site is to provide mature, meaningful discussion about the Vancouver Canucks. However, we all need a break some time so this forum is basically for anything off-topic, off the wall, or to just get something off your chest! This forum is named after poster Creeper, who passed away in July of 2011 and was a long time member of the Canucks message board community.

You're learning from your hero - deflect, deflect, deflect... When it is obvious that trump knows very little nothing about international politics (one state, two state?), you try to deflect and paint the whole MSM (whatever that is) with the same brush. Signs of desperation.

Edit: PS.... Seriously Doc, when's the last time you got some fresh air?

@realDonaldTrump
My statement as to what's happening in Sweden was in reference to a story that was broadcast on @FoxNews concerning immigrants & Sweden.

Strangelove wrote: The Donald may have been referring to dozens of immigrants riots in Sweden over the last decade.
Yeahno. To a point.

Seems he was referring to a clip on Fox News, which was actually produced in 2010, and part of the slander campaign against Sweden from the extreme right. In that clip the so-called reporter mentions that Sweden just had suffered it's first Muslim terrorist attack. Right. <yawn> <fart>
This so-called terrorist attack, which happened in 2010, not last Friday, consisted of a guy who had previously lived in Sweden but moved to Luton, England, where he became radicalised. He then went back to Sweden and put on a suicide vest and headed out on a busy shopping street in downtown Stockholm. What happened next is a riddle. The guy walked around in the crowd for a while, then turned a corner into an empty alley and blew himself up. Two parked cars were damaged.

No one knows what happened, but there are basically two possible scenarios:
a) the terrorist(?) got cold feet and decided to blow himself up where no one else would get hurt. Why blow himself up then? Perhaps he was forced by someone threatening his family?
b) the bomb vest malfunctioned, and he headed into the alley to figure out why it wasn't working, when it suddenly did.

Either way, while this terrorist act got a lot of press at the time, it's more than six years since it happened, and no one, except for the terrorist himself, got hurt. Hardly worth mentioning at a rally in Florida.

As for the riots, they have nothing to do with Islam, but more with unemployment among immigrant youth, and the worst riots happened in 2013, before the massive influx of Syrians.
Here's a good article by Johan Norberg: http://www.spectator.co.uk/2013/06/why- ... has-riots/
Strangelove wrote:I hear Putin refers to them as "freedom fighters" and might be coming to their aid soon. :)
Nah, he doesn't like Muslims and other non-whites. He is supporting the extreme right and their xenophobic agenda.
The Russians are bankrolling most of the anti-EU, anti-immigrant parties around Europe (Brexit, UKIP, Front National, Alternative für Deutschland...), including the Sweden Democrats.
Strangelove wrote:No doubt Logisk Svensk and millions of other Swedes were glad President Trump said something.
Logisk Svensk yes, millions of Swedes, no.

I haven't heard anyone in Sweden, who is not a Sweden Democrat, supporting Trump, and they only got some 800,000 votes in the last general elections. Granted, the 4000 or so that voted for the openly Nazi "Svenskarnas Parti" (Party of Swedes) might also like him. But still. Shouldn't be more than one million, tops, and probably less. And no one really understood what he was talking about in the first place. The microphone problems Owe Törnqvist had at the dress rehearsal for Sweden's qualification for the Eurovision Song Contest, perhaps?

As for Logisk Svensk, judging from his poor grasp of Swedish, it's hard to fathom he should be a Swedish nationalist. His spelling is crap and he lacks basic insight into grammar, such as the difference between they and them. If he cares so much for Sweden, he should try to learn the language. But then, maybe I should cut him some slack; he could be dyslectic. :| Doesn't excuse his racism though.

He has been posting about "addressing the Muslim question". I mean, these people don't even care to hide their agenda. Anyone with at least a minimal grasp of history will note the hint at "the Jewish question" which was discussed in Germany in the 1930's, and the solution they came up with.

President Trump gets most of his info from intelligence personnel

... but he also keeps a keen eye on all the news networks, including Fox.

(he's critical about most of it)

Speaking of Fox and the mess in Sweden:
Trump may have been unclear, but Sweden experiencing a migrant crime wave

("Sweden likes to consider herself a humanitarian superpower")

("Sweden is in denial about her migrant crisis")

Police investigator Peter Springare isn’t likely to be among those mocking President Trump for his remarks about refugees in Sweden.

Trump’s comments during a Florida campaign rally on Saturday – which some took as a misstatement about a supposed terror attack – dovetail with what Springare has been seeing during a typical week in Orebro, Sweden. Five rapes, three assaults, a pair of extortions, blackmail, an attempted murder, violence against police and a robbery made up Springare’s caseload for a five-day period earlier this month, according to a Feb. 3 Facebook post he wrote. The suspects were all from Muslim-majority countries – Iraq, Syria, Afghanistan, Somalia and Turkey – save for one Swedish man nabbed in a drug-related case.

“Mohammed, Mahmod, Ali, again and again,” Springare wrote of those arrested.

Springare, who was briefly investigated for possible hate crime incitement based on his post, managed to elucidate what Trump only hinted at during a Florida campaign speech – somewhat opaquely.

“You look at what’s happening last night in Sweden,” Trump said. “Sweden. Who would believe this? Sweden. They took in large numbers. They’re having problems like they never thought possible.”

Many analysts took issue with Trump’s “last night” framing

But Trump explained on Twitter late Sunday that he was only referring to a Fox News segment that aired on Friday night’s “Tucker Carlson Tonight” dealing with the Swedish refugee crime.

“It seems like we may be missing the point of the story, which is there has been a massive social cost associated with the refugee policies and the immigration policies of Western Europe,” Carlson said on “Fox & Friends” on Monday morning.

Trump tweeted again on Monday morning:

"Give the public a break - The FAKE NEWS media is trying to say that large scale immigration in Sweden is working out just beautifully. NOT!" Trump wrote.

Last month, the police chief for the southern Swedish city of Malmo issued a desperate plea for help curtailing a plague of attempted murders, beatings and rapes. About 32 percent of Malmo’s occupants are migrants, although it is not clear what role migrants play in the crime wave.

“We cannot do it on our own,” Chief Stefan Sinteus wrote in an open letter about the “upward spiral of violence.”

And Sinteus is not merely dealing with typical crimes that any modern city would witness.

Malmo had 52 hand grenade attacks in 2016 alone, a jump from 48 attacks in 2015, according to figures provided by the Swedish Police Authority.

Nationwide, the terror threat level is at “elevated” and police believe at least 300 Swedish nationals have travelled to Syria and Iraq for jihadi training. On Feb. 11, a Swedish man and a Danish man were arrested in Turkey, suspected of plotting to carry out attacks in Europe. Tofik Saleh, a 38-year-old Swedish citizen of Iraqi origin, had been training with ISIS since 2014, officials said.

On the same day Springare posted his screed, a Swedish court turned over to Belgium evidence – seized in Malmo – in connection with the 2016 Brussels terror attacks, prosecutors said.

Not really.

Sure, It's not like Sweden doesn't have any problems, but they're really insignificant when compared to, say, the USA. I cede the floor to conservative former PM Carl Bildt:

Sweden on the brink? Police force pushed to breaking point by violence amid migrant influx

The Scandinavian country is facing an existential crisis with on average three police officers handing in their resignations a day.

If the alarming trend continues, and police officers continue to resign more than 1,000 officers will have quit the service by New Years.

But police have now admitted the force has reached breaching point as more than 50 areas in the country have now been placed on a “no-go zone” list.

In February a report from Sweden's National Criminal Investigation Service announced there were 52 areas where officers would not cope with the levels of crime being committed.

Sex assaults, drug dealing and children carrying weapons were just some of the incidents mentioned in the report.

The Police Association admitted it fears the public will lose faith in the force and their ability to protect citizens if the situation is not resolved. The union’s call for more resources echoes National Police Commissioner Dan Eliasson’s February warning, where he said he needed a further 4,100 officers and specialist staff to reestablish law and order in Sweden.
