Yeah keeping Miller is looking pretty good right now.

Miller/Marky gonna miss this combo next season, so lets enjoy the comfort of a strong pairing for a bit.
Can the Canucks just win a Cup within the next 5 years.

Agreed, that's why I would have considered Miller expendable.
Quite obviously, to make said plan work, you need Miller for at least one more season.

As for the rest of it... it's not rocket science buddy.

You don't have your team go through camp + preseason together

... bonding all the way around a stated goal of making the playoffs

.... only to trade your #1 goaltender to a division rival a few days into the season (for futures no less!)

Not. Gonna. Happen.

We agreed on that much from the outset.

Yes, but you couldn't see the 'why'... so I had to explain it to you.

You're welcome. :mex:

I saw other possible reasons, but I admit I did not see that one. So, thanks.

Greg Campbell suspended for failing to report to the AHL.
Over the Internet, you can pretend to be anyone or anything.

I'm amazed that so many people choose to be complete twats.

You don't trade your #1 to a division rival at the start of the season.

What kind of message would you be sending to your team?

It's not always good "asset management" to get some small asset for a soon-to-be-UFA

(rather than let him walk).

Sending a shit message to the rest of your "assets" is bad "asset management".

Why mess with their heads?

Also, we all know the goaltending plan is extremely solid moving forward, why would we mess with that?

Jimmy would have to be a soulless SOB to trade Miller at this point... and he's not, thank God.

I like Miller and I applauded Benning's move to sign him. I think he bought us time for Markstrom to find his game. But heck, if we can turn him into a pick and some assets I'd be all for that. Bachman getting lit up today in Utica but I'd still bring him up as Markstrom's backup. Too bad Benning wouldn't.
The most important thing about Quick's injury is that it takes a Pacific Division team who most project as a top 3 playoff team and puts them (in my view) as a bubble team. Quick supplies better than league average goaltending; his stats are consistently solid and he can play a lot of games (meaning those stats are for 60-65 games, not 50). More than the stats over a season, we've seen him get locked in and carry the team for stretches, and in big situations.

Who do the Kings have in the system? A 29 year old who is the definition of a replacement level goalie and a career backup who has failed with each attempt to be a starter. The point is that the Kings need to keep pucks out of the net because they are challenged offensively and now they are trying to do it with AHL talent goaltending. Two years ago they missed the playoffs, 3 years ago they won the Stanley Cup but just squeaked in the playoffs. Last season was among their best regular season offensive performances (and they got to 225 goals), but this just makes them average offensively (and is the high water mark for what this Canucks team can do). But I don't project them to score that much this year. Kopitar is consistent and such an awesome player at every facet of the game that matters on the scoresheet, Carter and Toffoli can go on offensive runs (and can go bone dry), but this is not a deep scoring team. And now it is without Lucic, who in my view is terribly overrated, but is still a good hockey player who wears down defenders. Off season acquisitions? Teddy Purcell? Devin Setaguchi? This is waiver wire stuff to replace one of the most highly sought after free agents. Marian Gaborik is a shell of his former self, and Dustin Brown is the Kings' Alexandre Burrows.

I don't want the Kings to pull a Vikings and get Sam Bradford. There are plenty of eastern conference teams with a second goalie they could part with that project better than Zatkoff or Budaj. I want Zatkoff to have a decent start, like Condon last year. Lull the Kings into complacency. Then fade. And then have the team give up and be on the wrong side of the Top 3 by 5 or 6 points come mid-January.

When things are going well and Quick is in the zone, the Kings compete hard on the ice and can play with anyone. When they aren't going as well, well, there is potential here for the Kings to have the worst drop off in points in the league now that Quick is out.

Anders Lindbäck has signed a short term contract (5 games, can be extended) with the LA Kings.

Anders is a goalie from Brynäs, just like Markström, Eddie Läck, Johan Holmqvist and Joacim Eriksson. :mex:

http://www.eliteprospects.com/player.php?player=3769

Here are some Brynäs goalie stats from the 2008/09 season:

GOALTENDING STATS
- Regular season ---------------------------- Playoffs
# -- PLAYER -------- GP GAA . SVS% - GP GAA . SVS%
1. Joacim Eriksson... 0 .... - ...... - ...... |
2. Jacob Markström 35 . 2.38 . .917 .. | .. 1 . 2.02 .929
3. Anders Lindbäck. 24 . 2.57 . .916 .. | .. 3 . 2.37 .916

(W-L-T stats are only shown per team in Sweden, not per goaltender)

Just under two weeks in and injuries around the league are piling up.

The World Cup was not worth it.

Go with the Olympics or replace it but don't compress the start of the season, ever again.
Just saying.

I am not sure the NHL and the NHLPA would agree with you.

Any idea how much money that was?

Richardson suffers a broken right tibula and fibula. Is undergoing surgery, or its done. Hope he gets back this season.

Trymakin barely hit him. I think Richardsaon trying to duck out of the hit put himself in an awkward position as he fell. Tough break, literally.

Listening to Coiler radio and finding it interesting that the focus seems to be on how disappointing Milan Lucic has been here. Lots of discussion about how they expected him to be far more dominant and win all the battles...i guess Aaron was right about him  We may have dodged a boat anchor sized bullet on that one.
5 straight losses and McJesus hasn't been walking on water since Kadri spent 60 minutes rag dolling him. Looks like it might be shaping into another loser year in Coilertown
