Re: Canucks Young Guns
I don't know if Rodin will have a good season. Word today is that he has not fully recovered from his injury and will be in Vancouver shortly to have his knee examined by Canucks medical staff. How long the recovery and rehab will take is not quite known yet.
Sending him to Utica may not be an option. If he is ready for camp, which he says he will be but may not be 100%, and assuming he stays with the Canucks, how long will it take him to get back to where he was in the SEL? How long will the Canucks be patient with him? Best case, he is 100% for camp, has no lingering effects from the injury, bounces back to where he was and shows he belongs. Worst case, he never gets untracked, has a poor year not getting the ice time he needs to recover, is declared a bust and returns to the SEL next year.
Will we see a situation where the Canucks want him to work himself back via Utica? Will he accept that? Would he clear waivers? Will he be the 13th forward working his way back that way?

Because he will be ready to play with top 6 guys this year. He is NOT far from it now.Lancer wrote:It's a matter of development.micky107 wrote:What is this crazy virus "H1N1-WTF. most have in insisting Jake "MUST" be Utica bound.BladesofSteel wrote:Bennings reasons for going after a skilled/gritty left-winger is to protect Baertschi. Take him out of the lineup and there isn't a single forward opposing defencemen would even think about on the forecheck. He IS one of the teams 12 best forwards. No way he should be in Utica.
In reality, I think the team needs a gritty top six so they can justify starting Jake in Utica. If they can't acquire another physical presence up front, Jake's there only hope in the top 9.
We must buy or "acquire", (usually means lose something).
AGAIN I SAY: GROW OUR OWN!!! um, that would be Jake, hello?
I'm with ya on this all the way, Blob!!
Let's not forget that this kid managed 13 points in 55 games playing up to 15 minutes a night with 3rd/4th line linemates. How much can he really develop in this situation?
Will we be satisfied seeing Virtanen in the NHL playing 10-14 minutes a night and developing into another Raffi Torres 3rd-liner? Just so we can see somebody homegrown lay out some hits next season?
Or
Would we rather wait a year, let Virtanen get bigger minutes, grow more confidence and learn his lessons so that he becomes more like a Tkachuk-lite?
The Canucks may make the playoffs next season, but no way they'll be contending unless something epic and unforeseen transpires, so what's the point of rushing the kids early onto the big club?
Virtanen has it in him to be a good top-6 power forward, but he's far from there now so what's the point of keeping him up beyond seeing him run around for the big hit?
And by the way, Bo is the #2 center, not Sutter.
Sutter is a third line center and a PK specialist. A checking line type, that's it.
If we wait as long for "development" as you would like, may as well wait till the Provincial Government of B.C.

That's unfortunate news. I was hoping to see him at full 100% so he would have a 100% chance to get a spot on the team and show what he could do. Considered him a bit of a dark horse.Hockey Widow wrote:I don't know if Rodin will have a good season. I guess it depends on how much of a fair shake Rodin thinks he'll get if he stays with the club rehabbing either in Vancouver or Utica. I wish him the best of recovery in time for camp.

I see Boobs McKenzie is up to usual antics of spreading the negativity around like it's going out of style. He must be off the booze again.

Re: Canucks Young Guns
Yeah that sucks, was a bit worried about that, Rodin won't be 100% this next season, not the same skating wise, a bit of hesitation, out of game shape, he's been out of it for 6 months now, that's a long time in pro sports and has only been skating for 2 weeks now.Lancer wrote:That's unfortunate news. But it's good news for the 24 year old, 6'1 210lbs swift Emerson Etem, there's his silver lining aha, if he can build on those 4 goals and an assist in the last 5 games, he could steal a spot up front.
Can the Canucks just win a Cup within the next 5 years.

Re: Canucks Young Guns
The one silver lining maybe that camp and the season start later this year. Those extra few weeks maybe a life saver for him as he gets back on the ice. If he's not ready I hope he is willing to go to Utica even if it's just for the rehab games. Buys him more time.SKYO wrote:Yeah that sucks, was a bit worried about that, Rodin won't be 100% this next season, not the same skating wise, a bit of hesitation, out of game shape, he's been out of it for 6 months now, that's a long time in pro sports and has only been skating for 2 weeks now.Lancer wrote:That's unfortunate news. I don't know if he would clear waivers though so that would be risky. Just playing the injury rehab games might be enough. Of course playing with the twins may help too!

This is exactly the kind of situation, (re-hab), where a team should be able to assign a player to the minors without having him exposed.
It works in baseball.
If the waiver rules can't be changed completely, at least make an exception for coming off an injury and getting up to speed even if it's just a week or 3 or 4 games.
Don't see why all parties couldn't agree on at least that much?

Great contribution. Did you strike out on Freestyle Friday st the Dufferin tonight? Is the outfit and the trapeze not working these days? Those are the rules. Sorry, my post was very poorly worded. I should have separated the two thoughts.
1 if he is waived to play in Utica I don't know if he clears waivers
2) he can be assigned to Utica, for I think 5-6 games, if coming off an injury in order to rehab, without needing waivers. So they do very much have that option. We saw Salo do that a few years back. And others.
Sorry again for the confusion micky, my bad.

Re: Canucks Young Guns
I think it comes down to both sides having faith that it's worth it to be patient with Rodin in the early going.
Rodin having faith that doing a rehab stint in Utica and being a bit of an extra forward in Vancouver until he recovers will pay off with a real shot at a meaningful role on the big club.
Management having faith that keeping his contract on the books and having a roster spot in Vancouver will pay off with him being a top-6 winger by the Spring.
We'll see come training camp. I wish him the best regardless.

General Contractor Benning is renovating Canuck house, he's working for very fickle homeowners, give the dude some rope, stop peeing the bed before the renovation is completeBlob Mckenzie wrote:Great contribution. If the defense stays as is, with Sbisa, Tryamkin and Larson being the depth guys.
Subban is gonna have to impress a lot in preseason to edge a spot over Larson (QB battle), it'll be just like McCann and Virtanen who outplayed more experienced guys in Vey and Kenins in the fall of 2015.
It just goes to show that management/coaches are true to their word, that if you earn a spot and outplay more experienced guys, you will make the team.
This holds true to Brendan Gaunce as well, who imo is the most ready for a full time roster spot, at least 50/50 nhl/ahl split duties as I've said before.

Boeser looked good at the Summer Series.. He still needs time in Utica.
While adding youth to the system, I would like to see 'youth' defined as 20-21 year olds opposed to 18-19 year olds. Get that Detroit mindset where they keep prospects in the system until they are a bit overripe. Even though the skills met not be improving (as fast) in until a, the extra couple years of maturity and mental toughness seems to carry their prsopects farther...

Nice to hear Subban and Gaunce are working hard in the off season. I woudln't mind leaving Subban in the minors for another season, as we are stacked @ D atm. Maybe bring him up for a few games if our backend gets some injuries and he's playing really well in Utica. I think Gaunce is ready as well. Great to hear that he's working on his skills and skating and all, but I just wish he had more edge to his game. He just seems to be a bit of a gentle giant type like Taylor Pyatt. I heard Green say the say thing about him as he said nobody wants a big guy who's soft. Not sure if this something u can teach, but if Gaunce can play a solid 2-way game (which was something he did well), play well defensively, be good on the dot and develop into a Malhotra type, I guess it'll still make him a valuable player.SKYO wrote:Jordan Subban putting on muscle -
