Another bad memory - remember when our goalies actually sucked? When people talk about dumping Miller, they must be either post-Cloutier era fans or have terrible memories.SKYO wrote:2nd rounders for old vets is a bad memory, thanks for the reminder ha.RoyalDude wrote:The Gillis Special. Remember when this team was competitive enough to be buyers at the deadline? A 3rd round pick and Evan Oberg for Chris Higgins was a far better deal than a 2nd rounder for Willie's Boy.RoyalDude wrote:The Gillis Special. And aren't you one of those that buys the "mentorship" factor? Yeah, Mats has got nothing on real mentors like Sbisa, Dorsett and Sutter.

Yes Mats Sundin was all heart when he was here, like how Messier was all in. KACHINGGGGG!!!! All the way through retirement. Thank you Vancouver.

Well you are the expert on mentorshipIsland Nucklehead wrote:Yeah, Mats has got nothing on real mentors like Sbisa, Dorsett and Sutter.
... in fact you're better than Jim Benning in every way!
Yeah, Sundin was the perfect leader for The Muskoka Five.

Not blind at all. All the doubts I've seen on this forum are well documented. Hey, I know it's all fun and games but it does get a bit naseous at times.Strangelove wrote:As opposed to all the blind doubt overrunning Canuckdom of late?5thhorseman wrote: Yep, sounds like blind faith to me.

The doubters have given their dubious reasons for doubting (AKA urinating).5thhorseman wrote:Not blind at all. The believers have given their reasons for believing (AKA being fans of a team).
But it's waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too early for anyone to pass judgement on James E. Benning.

Yes it's early, and yes there's been some signings that we can disagree on about length and dollars, but what I like so far is that Benning won't wait around forever to make a move that needs to be made. He'll take some chances and try to improve the team if he thinks he can.
Other than the Vey signing, I can't really blame him for any without using 20/20 hindsight. We just have to wait and see how this all plays out. For now, the kids are getting a shitload of ice time while staying competitive.
Another off season coming up and we'll disagree about these upcoming moves as well. But unless someone knows the future, we just have trust that our GM knows more about putting a team together than we do.

Last time I posted something about Blind Faith a cripple deleted it in fear of a law suit over a picture of a topless pubescent girl.

For sure we won't be able to tell on the young players and draft picks for a few years. Some of them may turn out to be very good NHL players.Cornuck wrote:Not for some....Strangelove wrote:But it's waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too early for anyone to pass judgement on James E. Benning.

However the contract signings of the Fab Four are terrible right off the hop and the way Elmer shit the bed at the deadline is plain as day for everyone to see.

I'm on board with the Miller signing, we needed stability in net until we had a kid come up and take over.Blob Mckenzie wrote: However the contract signings of the Fab Four are terrible right off the hop and the way Elmer shit the bed at the deadline is plain as day for everyone to see.
As for the others, I'm guessing Benning overpaid for what they bring, but they bring their own form of stability to some point. Dorsett is battling for the team, Sbisa is well... we're still waiting for him to deliver, and we didn't get the free watch. Who's the other one you keep bitching about?

Soooooo, being a fan is reason enough to believe in Benning, so if you're a fan, you must be a believer. But wait! It's too early to pass judgement on Benning, that is, decide whether you believe in him or not, so it's not possible to truly believe at this juncture, cos it's too early, right? Ergo, none of us can claim to be fans. Argggghh, I'm so confused, I'm sure you'll offer me a place on your couchStrangelove wrote:The believers have given their reasons for believing (AKA being fans of a team).

So.....
Does everyone know this thread is about signings and RFA injuries and not another Benning/Linden/Gillis love/ahte discussion?
Maybe we need a full thread all about the current and past GM of the Vancouver Canucks so the rest of us can ignore the discussions between a handful of posters who all look like they should be on spring break at the moment, you now taking a day off from the playground and recess.
Interesting about Malkin, is Pittsburg fast becoming an old team? They are 4 points out of not making the playoffs with both Crosby/Malkin in the lineup.
