Good thing, where have you gone
(Doo, doo, doobie doo)
My good thing, you've been gone too long
(Good thing, doo, doo, doobie doo)

A good deal of negative on our planet and, to a degree, in these forums.

I thought I would start a thread to promote some positive intel and energy promotion.

I expect no response but will post the odd "virtuous" item now and then for those who care to view.

When I took over this property 11 years ago there weren't many birds and many mozzies.

We went completely organic with our land management plan by using absolutely zero chemicals on weeds and to mitigate the pests like many people use out here. I built tons of varying sizes of birdhouses, we feed all the birds year round and have massive flocks of all types of bird life that reside on our land.

The best part is the birds eat almost all the mosquitoes now and we've done it without any harmful chemicals that can get into the groundwater. We have a well so this was particularly important.

I'm an eco warrior

At first the weeds were a pretty significant issue. We had something called wormwood taking over portions of the meadow that a neighbouring rancher called the county on me about. Cunt!

It turns out it wasn't a prohibited weed just one to be concerned over due to rate of propagation. Being from BC I thought it was sage as it resembles it and smells something like it.

The funny thing about wormwood is that it's what you make fucking absinthe out of. I'm an absinthe farmer!

There have been studies on the medicinal possibilities of wormwood and now I'm looking into harvesting it for science and the psychoactive properties.

So I'm a dog person. My partner and I have no kids, never felt the need.

That being said, have always had a four legged friend in our home. Currently an older adopted Pittie. A certified good Boi.

Our local humane society steps up every year. But this year above and beyond. Being a remote, fairly challenging environment to live in, they face a lot of challenges places like the BC SPCA just don't.

This year, for example - they took in 425 animals, vs. 255 in 2024. A record increase. This is a mostly volunteer run shelter, and faced a number of challenges this winter. The Yukon had our longest cold snap in recent history, 3 weeks of -35C to -45C., for those who haven't experienced something like this, it causes a lot of problems - from freezing pipes, to propane not running for heat, vehicles not starting or dieing during a commute.

All that noted, during this, Whitehorse also set snowfall records the last week - over the holidays, causing all the issues. Most snow in December, in history. Staff weren't able to get into the parking area, open the shelter and get to work. A call was put out of desperate help, to plow, to heat, to help. And our community showed up.

Commercial snow removal companies removed all the snow over the 4-5 days on their own time, free of charge - new volunteers showed up with diesel heaters, holiday feasts, and presents, people adopted pets at record numbers to reduce the strain.

Good people, coming together in common cause to help those who couldn't help themselves.

A beautiful thing to behold.

That's a great story JPP. I did some work in that Whitehorse SPCA branch and remember the staff as being good folk that deserve the help.

Love it!

I've lived a lot of places over the years, but never in a "community " like I do now. Stories such as yours make it worthwhile.

Thanks for sharing JPP.

As Jello knows we have been known to work in his neck of the woods and are likely to be undertaking a significant project on in2026.

We completed a small job in 2024 and what he says about the locals proved factual.

How dealing with individuals/companies in town used to be.

Small towns is why I am where i am......
