There is A LOT to talk about with this team as the current season ends and the off season commences.

Feels to me we are on the precipice, a knifes edge if you will, and this thing could go either way with the current off season being the impetus of impending change.

If we can get a young center like Mason McTavish, who is on the precipice of a breakout, in exchange for Willander+, it would go a long ways to resetting our window, which would be centered on the 2nd half of Hughes's prime.

If we didn't have Hughes, we would likely be talking about a full rebuild. Instead, we have a future HOFer and need to act now. Wasting another season will not be acceptable.

We're set in net and mostly on D, and have a HUGE question mark in Pettersson. Glad I'm not a GM, but adding down the middle is the number one priority. If we need to move some youngsters to make that happen, so be it. There's a good chance we'll never see Willander in the Orca.

I think a fair statement 5th (edit....and Corn) and Willander appears the best piece we have to dangle.

That and EP finding some semblance of high end and consistent play in his game.

They need to set this ship straight soon or losing QH is on the table.

The current stable of top end NHL'ers are ready to move on in an effort to win and choose where they end up.

I thought I read somewhere Friedman (yes indeed, grain of salt) was saying Bedard was unhappy and would be asking to be moved this off season.

I believe we have 15 mill at the moment in cap space… more if good trades happen.

I’m excited for July 1 actually.

So MUCH to talk about.

Are we all (or at all) comfortable with the team in place managing this all important off season?

Another piece we need is a Tom Wilson (ish) Mathieu Olivier (ish) deterrent in our lineup 24/7/365.

Management team? We have no choice really at the moment. But if I had to say…. I’m reluctantly optimistic… lol

Reluctantly optimistic seems to reflect more of a personal character trait than a vote of confidence in the crew.

I'm ok with the current management. We've seen a lot worse (not to go 'there') - but I think we're a lot better off if we stick with these guys and not bring in a new crew who needs to make their mark, change direction, etc. I'm ok with Tochett as well. I wasn't good with how the whole Miller thing went down, and felt he should have done more to nip that in the bud. Maybe he's not the ideal coach for EP40, but then who would be?

With that said, they need to make some strong moves and get this team back on course. I see this year as more of an aberration, and the previous year of over-achieving closer to where we're going.

Oh for sure the query was not meant to suggest a change.

Not the time for that.

These guys have been a bit hit and miss though so hopefully more of the former in the off season.

That's moreso what I meant....

The problem with trading Willander is that we better be damn sure that QH is resigning here, otherwise we're back to looking for that elusive PP QB. Hopefully management has a good read on that.

Always a problem in life, politics, relationships and business eh 5th?

That's why these boys get paid millions to figure shit out.

Don't upgrade at center...potentially lose QH.

Upgrade using Willander and lose QH anyway.

Yikes.

Dilemmas r Canuck....

I'd like to have a look at Willander but I doubt he has more upside than Junior EP. That kid really is moving into Ohlund/Edler territory.
