Yeah I think the difference from last term to this time around is the checks and balances of three branches if government is falling apart. It's not there yet but it's close. The challenge to Boasberg's authority is the focal point right now.

You could also say that trump didn't expect to win the first time. He made it up as he went along, hiring some people who were able to push back against his dumbest stuff. This time around, he had the Project 2025 playbook and hired people who would do as they were told. He was able to hit the ground running with a massive number of EOs and overwhelm the system. Adding in musk to run distractions and create chaos, is just the bonus.

The checks and balances are there, just slower to respond than the initial actions causing the trouble.

The checks and balances are there but are too reliant on convention and are showing cracks.

For instance, the legislative branch as a check on the executive is effectively neutered, with Trump's threat to primary anyone who opposes him hanging over their heads.

And now he's trying the same thing with the judicial branch, threatening impeachment of judges who rule against him.

Or he could just choose to ignore any court rulings. Who is going to enforce them? Ultimately it will be up to the AG to ensure enforcement so you know what's going to happen there.

Two things I found interesting,
1- Vance believed it was more in aid of trade for Europe and didn't work with Trumps "Europe needs to defend itself" ideals.

2- Europe doesn't have the capabilities to counter strike the advanced weapons used by the Houthis.

The mole would be Michael Waltz, as he is the one who made the initial connection request with Goldberg, and then invited him to the chat.

Inviting a reporter was a mistake, and mistakes happen. The real issue was using Signal in the first place. The Pentagon had even recently warned of a vulnerability in Signal, where "Russian professional hacking groups are employing the 'linked devices' features to spy on encrypted conversations." One of the participants on the chat was in Moscow at the time, with the chat transmitted via Russion cell towers!
