Sorry, you’re not getting Fantilli
That seems a lot. 2 former top 12 1st round picks, and another 1st round pick. But, why the hell not. How are those 3 projecting? Petey for a 1st and 2 busts sucks. A 1st, and 2 A grade prospects rocks.
Johnson and Mateychuk are not out of the woods yet regarding knowing what we have in them. If anything, the Canucks take on a bigger risk regarding known knowns. Petey, yes expensive and struggling at the moment, is a proven high end talent, and it’s not out of the realm for him returning to form, especially once getting away from lunatic Miller.

I wouldn't count out Fantilli as an option - his production has plateaued this season and last - though he has shown some progress of late. Will likely require either a reduction in the package going to Vancouver or extra sweetener on Vancouver's part.

One thing I would say is that if management trades Petey, they've effectively told the room that it's Miller's room - regardless of who is Captain. The ability of whomever they bring in to mesh with Miller will be a consideration. Will new-age softies like Johnson and Mateychuk balk and pout like Petey when Miller gets on their cases?

This is why I say any trade of either player should be a trade based as much on roster and dressing room chemistry as much as the return. No point in getting a haul in trade if we're back in the same place a couple years from now. This is why I'm scratching my head when we hear rumours about both players, when it seems apparent that management has ID'd Miller as the chemistry problem. Are they willing to keep the onboard assassin just because they can get a better return on the pouty potential star??

Okay, so what if we were to upgrade on Boeser?

Boeser (extended) + 1st + ??... for a first line winger (of the asshole variety).

Who?
Criteria - fast, large, asshole, sniper with term who scores a lot, especially clutch goals.
Seems easy enough.
Done!

I'd toss Konecny into the discussion but the Flyers aren't moving on him after signing him to a ticket I don't imagine....

...slim pickings.

Good question.

And not one I can answer after a couple of drinks in the evening.

Maybe tomorrow after coffee?

(or someone else come to my rescue?)

Ya if the Canucks have the balls to build for the next two years while they show Quinn that they are serious they could get a pick and a prospect but they want to win now so slim pickings since only a playoff team would go for him as he would be a rental. Unless as Doc suggests a sign and trade but if I'm Boeser I don't trust that one to Allvin. They need someone like M Pettersson on the right side. I wonder if there is another out there?

Both Boeser and Debrusk look real slow now. I like Petty with the other 2 Swedes. Man we fix one problem only to create another. Fucking cap.

i wonder if Petey has 1 month (until March trade deadline) or 6 months (Until July) for his pressure taker audition

if he cannot prove himself, we ship him out.

I would imagine that unless someone blows their socks off they will wait until the offseason. more teams have more cap room.

Columbus is having a better year than they expcted but they wont last long in the playoffs. They should be over their Johnny shock and may go looking for a star centre to add to their stable.

They can't wait too long. His full NMC kicks in on July 1st.

The draft would be the perfect time to trade him

Agreed.

At the draft I think the two teams to be talking to will be Buffalo and Nashville. Both teams are not in a re-build phase but have seriously under-performed. With the cap going up the way it is Pettersson's salary is not as much of a boat anchor and the draft pick return would be higher.

Buffalo in particular could be looking for this sort of trade because they have squandered the fuck out of so many high picks that they need established NHL'ers right now. Adding a 26 year-old center who should be a 1C might be attractive.

Buffalo is "said" to have a hard on for EP.

They also have a bunch of nice 'lil treats to choose from.

I'd throw Columbus in the mix as Wids noted earlier....
