Right now, on CapWages, 5.5% is around 70th overall for defense men. That will be insanely cheap for a top pair dman. (especially once OEL and scooter are off the books)

DPetety is eligible to sign now too. Wonder if they are talking to his camp. I see him more as a 2-3 million 2-4 year type deal. Next July 1st we have Willander that we can extend but max 7 seasons. Will be interesting to watch these two continue t delvelope and see what we sign them too.

To me DPetey is a bottom pairing guy.

I agree that Dpetey doesn't project as a top pairing, but I think all of the defense looks worse after last years fuckening from a systems point of view..

I interpreted him meaning 5 years ago, he would never give an 8 year contract to a kid with under a full season of games, and a year left in his ECL.

But, 3 offer sheets later (Holloway and Broberg and Carlson), GMs are trading offer sheet risk and breakout season risk against early signing of a kid which stagnates and underperforms risk.

Yeah...moreso that.

Also the working within the current times and pro-active nature of the deal as compared to some of the delayed tactics/odd moves of the last group.

OK, yeah, it's not exactly genius-level strategic innovation or execution, but past management teams would not have felt constrained by "every other option is stupid".

Choices are choices....

Other Management teams had choices and picked the wrong ones....like signing EP, Lankinen, Boeser, Louis Eriksson or drafting Juloevi or Virtanen as but a few samples.

These fucking guys had a draft plan and succeeded by all reports and made the right choice with Buium irrespective of our thoughts as to how "easy" that was....

Those are positive, albeit baby steps.....

Hughes 129 games vs Zeev's 80 games. Both a year left on their ELC. Not a lot of difference but I get your point, offer sheets have certainly raised the stakes and credit to RJ for recognising that. I'm hoping the low profile and expectations will lead to under-the-radar success.
