So LS OEL “the bum” got the nod ahead of LS Lindholm and LS Marcus Pettersson? Interesting.

The omission of Ekholm is probably the most commented non-pick. Him and Marcus Johansson.
Broberg is logging more minutes than anyone else in St Louis, 23-ish. Only 3 Swedish d-men (Andersson, Dahlin, Karlsson) in the NHL log more minutes than him. I might have considered Edvinsson as well. Big guy. 199 cm, 100 kg. But I guess they went for more experience.

Either way, I think the Swedish D looks solid. Forwards look pretty good too.
Most worried about the goaltending, but I guess they’re OK.

Ah, so it was critique of the Oilers.

As for OEL, he has won two world championship golds for Sweden and Olympic silver in 2014.
Played in seven world championships and been named one of the top three players on the team three times.
Played 1099 NHL games (milestone game on Saturday?) and won Stanley Cup as recently as 2024.
Logging 20 minutes a night in Toronto and has 25 points in 40 games.
Sure, he is probably past his prime, but his credentials and experience are hard to dismiss.

Seems like the roster announcement got Zibanejad excited. Five point night against Florida!

If I were constructing Team Sweden, I would have found a spot for Backlund. Probably over Wennberg.

The Holmberg pick is curious, but I can't say I've tracked him this year to know whether his two way play has become excellent. But I get that he fills a different role than Johansson would have; probably Rackell is who goes if Johansson made the team.

As for the defense, I can see the argument for what they did -- though I think I would have had Ekholm in the mix. Especially because it wouldn't surprise me if Dahlin is playing the right side -- Ekholm provides a balance with those right side defenders that I don't think OEL does as well. Hedman and Forsling are locks and I suspect Dahlin is a lock (probably on the right side); it will be interesting to see who sits among the rest.

Congrats to Fil for making Czechia. An obvious choice, and perhaps the most deserved pick to represent the Canucks.

Yeah I agree BoS.

Hronek is a legit beast.

Well deserved and then some.

Czehcia Jr's. apparently stronger than Sr's. as I see Kampf got the call as well.

I think as long as the linesmen carry jugs of water with the during the game to fill in the holes, it should work out well.

I can see the ice surface problems causing a boycott of the pros who don't want to risk injury.
