Kind of trippy to read a game day thread about next month! :look:
Back to the future vibes.

So are you all going to bet money on this, now that you already know the score?

I think that is the difference between you and me Mëds... I'm not piling on - just calling a spade a spade. And certainly not constantly, and in every one of my posts.

And I talk about all the players on the team, Lankinen for example has been in my crosshairs as well - though I'll say, he played pretty well last night.

Its a team game, and they'll only go so far as their depth will take them. (and goaltending, because lets be real here).

I'll admit, I'm not a fan of Petey - I'd prefer to have a Mackinnon, McDavid or a Pasternak type instead, with that type of money. But I feel the level of "piling on" him the last year by one or two members of this GDHTMB was a bit much. Similar to the Blob/Chef GM shit. It got to me, so I decided to be the positive voice in that argument.

This year, it wasn't supposed to start for another 8 games give or take. So I decided to let my real perspective on the player dictate my posts until that bullshit starts again.

I'm a fan of this team, and have been for a long time. Fandom comes with sacrifice. Be ye learned.

I didn't see those games, but just based on production, he was trending upwards. Like I said about this game - he should have stepped up tonight against a weak team and been a difference maker. If not now, when?

Well to me I look at what is going on.

The team has hit an unbelievable injury bug that has taken out several key players. This means opposing teams can easily put their best checking line out against him.

Plus the level of his teammates which is not at the same level when he started. EP is not a player who can single handily lead the team to wins or dominate games so expecting him is mute at this point. Yes his salary dictates this but he doesn’t so why get your knickers in a knot when he fails?

I’m a long life fan of the Canucks and all I saw was a W yesterday on a gutsy win so I will take that (at least today).

Yes, I suppose I am expecting too much. And I'm not the one writing his cheques.

And I did enjoy the W last night. :)

Yep. That was what some of us saw early on, and it became more certain in the last 4 months of his second contract, and it was blatantly obvious in the playoffs that year. There was a reason why a contingent of fans were calling for him to be traded before July 1st of this year.

It may have been seen to be piling on the player, but in reality it was piling on management/ownership for committing to a player that is not suited to a leadership role. Pettersson should never have been given more than Miller, he hadn't earned it and, when he was extended, he was on his way to showing us that he never would. However, no player is going to say no to money like that, and both the player and the agent were happy to take advantage of the situation. The only real thing one can say about the player is that he put himself first over the team.....but many do. Few are the Crosby's (and now McDavid) in this league.

I thought he played a pretty solid game. He was responsible in his end, won more draws than he lost and kept their top line off the board. He was trying to cut through their d with some dangles.

Maybe we're looking for stuff to complain about with this guy

That sounds like Pius Suters game.
Sure he shouldn't " be a player who can single handily lead the team to wins or dominate games" every night, but it's not unreasonable to expect it once in awhile.

Analytics on EP last night are horrible.

Lugged a lot of minutes...23.5

2 shots
2 hits
2 blocks
2 takeaways versus 1 giveaway
Had a nice chance to win it in OT with a decent head fake cut to the middle but shot wide
65% in the dot

His effort in the shootout just tipped the edge of Binningtons blocker so he had his spot picked right and got a little unlucky.

Could be. As I said, I didn't watch this one.

I do think it is normal for fans to put players under a microscope when they sign a contract like his.

It is also going to be par for the course for that microscope to be even more tightly focused when that player has a 6 year history of showing up with some of the worst preparedness at the start of camp.

Scrutiny only goes up from there when the player who has been leading the team in overall scoring for the previous 5 seasons, who took substantially less cheddar despite an greater overall role, is moved out because of conflict. Regardless of which way things went, and what rumours were floated, and JT asking for a trade, he was the one moved because by that time there wasn't much of a return (if any) coming for Pettersson.

So yeah, fans are looking for things to complain about right now, and they will continue to do so until the player proves his value.
