Per, do you hear much about Arvid Costmar? The Canucks' prospect depth down the middle is lacking but when I look at this kid's production at each level and the fact he does frequently get selected to represent Sweden internationally, it appears they may have something to work with here. Plus his PIMs are quite high, so he seems to play with an edge. It doesn't make sense that he'd be available in the 7th round and as the third from last player selected in the entire draft.Per wrote: ↑Sat Aug 29, 2020 6:48 amScroll to the 3.55 mark...Strangelove wrote: ↑Fri Aug 28, 2020 3:06 pm![]()

Sorry, don’t know all that much about him. As you can see from his stats, he’s mainly been playing junior, only the odd game in the SHL or Allsvenskan. Haven’t seen much of him.Curmudgeon wrote: ↑Sat Aug 29, 2020 11:17 am

That being said, his stats look nice. Especially last season, ie, after he was drafted.... could be why he was available.
His stats before that were decent, but not exceptional, and many other kids his age have already played in the SHZl or the second tier besides junior.
I’ll keep eye out this winter. He should be getting some ice time in the SHL this year, and it’ll be interesting to watch him at the WJC.
Sorry I don’t have more to offer.

And then....
Today the Junior Crowns played Almtuna from the second tier league and crushed them 12-1.
Costmar was one of four players to score two goals.

Re: Canucks Young Guns
I believe we are about 2 seasons from being serious contenders for the cup. Petey and Hughes need to cook some more. This post season will be huge for their development along with the rest of the young guys. Podkolzin’d arrival will them on a whole other level along with a couple more of the good prospects in the system.

Yup Virtanen sadly ain't even a Torres, can't hit or he got "neutered" by the coaching staff to keep his cool idk, as he used to hit like a truck.Ronning's Ghost wrote: ↑Fri Jan 19, 2018 4:19 pmIsland Nucklehead wrote: ↑Fri Jan 19, 2018 9:56 amThere's nothing wrong if Virtanen winds up as the Raffi Torres 3rd liner, capable of teasing of greater things but lacking consistency.Sure enough, such players are valuable contributors, but wouldn't you hope for more from a 6th overall ? If he tops out where you describe, is he not at least a semi-bust of a draft pick ?Blob Mckenzie wrote: ↑Fri Jan 19, 2018 10:13 am If he can be a middle six guy like a Hansen who hits harder Im ok with that.
This was Jake Virtanen's semi-breakout season to boot! almost scoring 20 goals and was flying fast, but he seemed to get into party mode when the coronavirus pandemic hit, Coach Green obviously pissed by him and sat him for some games when the qualifier started.
In any case 2014 was a bad draft year though overall, the only real game changers imo are Draisaitl, Pastrnak and Point, with Draisaitl leading the pack. Ekblad, Larkin, Reinhart, Ehlers, Fiala, Nylander all good but not elite top tier material, Ekblad has had too many injuries.
Bennett got better in the playoffs for sure, JV, MDC, H. Fleury, Ritchie, Perlini, Honka, Milano a lot of mediocre players this draft year. Alex Tuch got better with age though, which is why he got his 7 year $4.75M per contract. The Wild certainly could have used his grit and playoff scoring. It's my semi-worry about dumping Virtanen at this point, is if he can simmer down his party ways (ala Kassian sober program) and become that 20+ goal scorer with fast wheels and be a beastly hitter.
And just think Minnesota dealt Tuch so Vegas would take Haula LOL.
Again, another reason to not trade with Seattle to protect certain players in the expansion draft.Prospect Alex Tuch, dealt to Vegas in part for the Golden Knights to select Haula and to pass on any of the Wild defensemen
Can the Canucks just win a Cup within the next 5 years.

Jake simply is a ding bat, he will tease you from time to time but his brain can’t process the game that well. But he is cheap enough to keep aroundSKYO wrote: ↑Mon Aug 31, 2020 4:04 pmYup Virtanen sadly ain't even a Torres, can't hit or he got "neutered" by the coaching staff to keep his cool idk, as he used to hit like a truck.Ronning's Ghost wrote: ↑Fri Jan 19, 2018 4:19 pmIsland Nucklehead wrote: ↑Fri Jan 19, 2018 9:56 amThere's nothing wrong if Virtanen winds up as the Raffi Torres 3rd liner, capable of teasing of greater things but lacking consistency.Sure enough, such players are valuable contributors, but wouldn't you hope for more from a 6th overall ? First game, first point. Vasily Podkolzin grabs the primary helper on SKA's opening goal of the year.

When Vasily Podkolzin was drafted in 2019, he was often listed at 6'1'' or just under 6'1'' (185 cm, or 72.8 inches).
It seems he's grown significantly. The KHL website, which previously had him at 185 cm, now states that he's 192 cm tall.
That's almost 6'4'' (175.6 inches). https://twitter.com/CambieKev/status/13 ... 5376436224
