Gadjo will come in handy, and next year he won't have to go through waivers iirc, so he can be a nice call-up for a 4th line gritty role if needed.Megaterio Llamas wrote: ↑Wed Jul 15, 2020 9:38 pmHuge improvement in his skating from last season to this as well. Just big, big growth as a player overall.

That's great to hear, he's definitely the type of player they need in the bottom part of their lineup.Megaterio Llamas wrote: ↑Wed Jul 15, 2020 9:38 pmHuge improvement in his skating from last season to this as well. Gadjo ain’t no Rick Rypien. I have never seen him chuck em old school... we should be cautious when gaging his toughness. Yes, he is ripped up, strong, plays heavy.. but that doesn’t mean he is a fighter.

Assistant Harvard coach James Marcou on what the Canucks can expect out of Jack Rathbone
Sportsnet 650am Radio --LINK-- Just under 10 minutes. Makes a point of his forward speed and shot from the point
Chris Higgins on Rathbone as well---for about the first four and one half minutes: -- LINK-- , Higgins is a bit of a hyper guy. Sounds like decaf may be something to think about...
And the pissed off sounding Todd Diamond (Tryamkin Agent) on what he says went wrong with a new contract: --LINK-- about 10 minutes.
IMHO: There was no panic here. The Russian player and his impatient sounding agent pushed too hard, too fast. Hence--blew it!

Re: Canucks Young Guns
Diamond didn't push too fast too hard. What he said:
* In a normal season the Canucks would have had the chance from the end of the season until July 1st to make moves and have room for Tryamkin.
* Canucks offered a two way deal because they needed cap flexibility in case they couldn't make moves right now. Tryamkin was not prepared for a two way.
*Covid world changed everything for the entire league and well everyone.
*Tryamkin wants back in the NHL as he is now a married man with a baby and has matured.
* Dedicated to returning the the NHL
*Never thought of outside of Vancouver. This is where he feels comfortable and has familiarity. That could change but for now he is committed to getting back to Vancouver
*Deeply disappointed but recognizes this is the Covid reality.
*The flat cap is playing havoc with a lot of players, soon to be UFA and RFA, and with most teams.
* Tryamkin felt that with the late start to next season, the flat cap, and the Canucks needing time to move cap around there was too much uncertainty for him to sit without a contract. He is very committed to returning as soon as his KHL contact was done, which is why he only did a one year deal.
My two cents, without the Luongo recapture, Tryamkin would have been signed. In a normal season Benning would have been able to make the room. So being right up against the cap hurt our ability to sign him now although had he agreed to a two way deal we could have signed him to a 2-3 year deal. The plan was not to send him to Utica but the plan was to have cap flexibility to allow Benning time to move cap. So maybe he would have had to be "papered" to Utica to start a season, not unheard of. So, he is a cap casualty in this environment.

Maybe at some point we will get clarification from head office that the Canucks only offered a two way deal.
It could well be that the amount off a one-way offered was not good enough.
The next time the boss speaks, I'm sure he'll have a word or two on the matter.

Re: Canucks Young Guns
Diamond said as much. They offered a two way because they felt uncomfortable offering a larger, one way at this time due to the flat cap and the uncertainty of when they could clear cap. They wanted flexibility as the new season approached in being able to reduce cap quickly until they could fit him in. If he was on a two way they knew they could paper him to Utica if they had to, and ya, that would mean he would earn less until they cleared room to bring him back.
They weren't offering a two way because they wanted him in Utica. It was simply a strategy to get him signed right now and provide them with flexibility as they redid the team once this season is done. Otherwise they told Diamond they could not sign him now and he would have to wait until this season was done and Benning could make moves to fit him in. Tryamkin felt too uncertain about that because ehe would not play then until late this year or early next so he decided to play in the KHL one more year. Now that move may complicate things too but at least when next season is done the Canucks should have the room to bring him on board for the 21-22 season.

Plus having a second ruskie come along with the Pod may help the kid adjust to NHL. The pod is going to be a big part of this team in a few years.

I have a totally different opinion. If Nicky wants to be an NHL player, he's blowing it every year he spends over in mother russia.
What kind of positive exposure has he got so far from afar. I'll tell you---diddly squat. I've searched.
He's not 23 anymore! NHL life is passing him by.

He'll come over if you make it worth his while, but his heart is in Ekaterinburg. But give him more money than he's worth, with certain ice time guarantees, and he's willing to talk. I just wish Jimmy had traded his rights a couple of years ago.Micky wrote: ↑Sat Jul 18, 2020 11:52 am I have a totally different opinion. Re: Canucks Young Guns
Well that is a different issue. What the Canucks could offer today versus what Tryamkin wanted. I don't disagree that I think he should have waited it out longer, maybe sign in Europe with an out clause or something. I agree by signing this deal he has pt himself back at least a year from joining the NHL. The Canucks could have given him a two way with the option to loan him out to Europe until they could fit him in. But this argument has nothing to do with what the Canucks could offer today and why.Micky wrote: ↑Sat Jul 18, 2020 11:52 am I have a totally different opinion. From all accounts money and term were not going to be issues nor was ice time or role on team. It is a covid casualty complicated by our cap and the re-arranging of this season and start of next.If the season had been cancelled Benning would have been able to clear cap and get him signed for next. Listening Diamond it seems the idea to sign a one year in the KHL was Tyramkin's idea. Does it put him on the trade block or does it diminish his chances of ever playing in the NHL? We will see.

The good news is we'll get him in his prime at $2M X 3 and then throw him away like a wet napkin.Megaterio Llamas wrote: ↑Sat Jul 18, 2020 12:15 pmHe'll come over if you make it worth his while, but his heart is in Ekaterinburg. Agree completely and Pod, Hoglander, and Rathbone all play with an edge too. Over the next couple years all three should be on the team and it could represent a solid 5 year window where they're adding a blue chipper each year on an entry level deal. Anything can happen, it's shaping up to be a great time to be a Canucks fan again. The Brown Wizard wrote: ↑Sat Jul 18, 2020 10:39 am Plus having a second ruskie come along with the Pod may help the kid adjust to NHL.
