Not sure any of these, besides the Buffalo idea, work for a team that thinks they are in a "now" window.....which is what the mindset is if they stick with JT over Pettersson.
I doubt that Carolina is parting with Necas at this point. Jarvis is having a good year, and he's young, but I'm not sure a winger is what we need back. Particularly a Quinn Hughes sized one who hasn't shown that he's anything more than a 2nd line forward. Nikishikin, while a highly touted young player in the KHL, is no guarantee to come over, and how they turn out in the NHL makes Russians is a true gamble. Draft and develop them? Sure. But don't trade known assets for unknowns in a situation like this.
The Anaheim idea is intriguing, but again, I think a gamble for futures. Mason McTavish still has loads of upside at only 21 years of age. But he's producing at barely more than 0.5 ppg right now.....I don't know that Vancouver has strong enough wingers south of Brock to go with a guy like him at this point. Zegras has never clipped more than 23G and 65P, also still only 23 with room to grow, but rumoured to have some attitude issues and needs to grow up.....could have another situation on our hands if Miller and him end up in the same room. But if a change of scenery was all that was needed, both guys could breakout here.
The Minnesota idea around Marco Rossi. Hard pass for me there. He's tiny and his stats are inflated by streaky play.
The Buffalo idea definitely works for Vancouver. Cozens has size and is scouted as having elite skating ability. He may not have Pettersson's hands or offensive IQ, but his strengths are definitely in areas of EP40's weaknesses, and he's only 23, still room to grow into a 65 point guy. Byram also has high end skating and the ability to carry the puck or make a pass. He's got good IQ at both ends of the rink. Maybe damaged goods? I don't know enough. But if he comes as scouted, he's Quinn Hughes lite, which would make him ideal for the 2nd pairing.

Somewhere in NW BC trying (yet again) to trade a(nother) Swede…..

If Nikishikin is a coming over guarantee I'm also taking that Carolina deal all day every day.
Byram is having an excellent year and seems past his issues which I spoke on here last week.
I'm doing that deal too.

No point in dealing with Carolina if you can't get Necas back as the main piece. Btw, the feuding duo has been both C/LW for many of their years together.
EDIT: Maybe Nikishikin would make it worthwhile to take Jarvis, Donny?
Rossi? Pfft.
The rumoured Buffalo deal still seems the most ideal as you get back the pieces you want (top 6 center and top 4 dman) and the money works too. Put aside the 100pt/season thing and know that Cozens will likely show his true potential again once out of Buffalo and can grow into that big, impactful PPG center by the time he hits 26y here.
Bo3 Byram. Yes.
Cozens already has had a 68pt season, equal to the best season Bo has ever had... for the Fishsticks. Some wanted to keep our former captain for $8.5M even though he's never produced anything more than as a second line center, although I will agree his overall game and what he did for us, way more impactful than our Alien. Was always the glue guy, did the dirty work and handled the weasels off ice.
Dealing with contending teams means they want one of your best pieces while our mandate is to win means we want their best piece(s). Not sure how we make the improvements that we want. Maybe Anaheim would work also? As long as it's not Zegras.

There is also the possibility that Cozens keeps on busting the rest of his career and that Byram’s concussion issues resurface.
The Canucks are taking on the bigger risk here. Cozens hasn’t played good hockey for awhile now.

There's also a possibility that EP has many familiar post 2024 ASG moments. What's your point? Stick with the Devil(s) you know?
There's no possibility that this owner or management will re-assess and stand pat.

I feel like baldies would trade Miller rather than Petey.

There is also the possibility that EP4011.6's wrist and knee issues will curse him for the next 5 years.Chef Boi RD wrote: ↑Thu Jan 09, 2025 1:40 pm There is also the possibility that Cozens keeps on busting the rest of his career and that Byram’s concussion issues resurface.

Islanders fans are getting frustrated with Barzal. Does he need a change? Barzal for Miller?

Some of these deals look good which means it happening.
Once it it is out in the media the % drops significantly IMO but at least it gets the key clicks and discussions on thousands of forums for fans to stay interested.
Every morning I check to see if a trade occurred so I’m hooked.
