Their current D after July 1st:

Rielly - Zaitsev
Muzzin (1yr left) - Ozhiganov
Calle(Rosen) - Liljegren
Sandin - Dermott (out for 6 months)
Ozhiganov went back to the KHL.

Liljegren is barely good enough for the AHL, let alone the NHL.

Dermott, out til Nov as you said, plays the left side.

As of this moment it would be:

Rielly - Muzzin
Sandin - Zaitsev
Rosen - Holl
Borgman

They would be throwing 19-year-old Sandin to the wolves.

LHS Muzzin can play the right side, but not as well.

Zaitsev sucks, but they're stuck with him and that contract.

Rosen is 25 and has played just 8 NHL games.

Holl is 27 and has played just 13 NHL games...

Their dee is set to be much worse even than last year (at the moment).

Nazem Kadri makes $4.5M to be a minus player with 16 goals and 44 points. You think Kapanen is going to sign for $2.5M after 20 goals and 44 points and plus-12?

So Kapanen scores the same number of points, more goals, and he takes half the penalties as Kadri. Kapanen also hasn't screwed his own team over two years in a row with a selfish first round suspension.

Top that off with the thought that, for the next 5 years, Kadri will not advance higher on the depth chart than the #3 center spot. Kapanen has the chops to play on either Tavares' or Matthews' wing in the top-6
.
Kapanen's agent will be asking for $4.5M minimum, and if Tarrana is lucky he will sign a 2 year deal at $3.5M.

If Dubas is smart he gives Kapanen as close to $4M as he can for as long as he can, and then deals Kadri to make it up.
Yeah they likely trade Kap, Johnsson and/or Nylander for a dman...which perfectly leads me to segue into this...

Tdot leaves dot in a world of trouble, will have def' have to move Nylander for D help along with one of Kapanen/Johnsson.

Yeah, trade Nylander for a right side dee... but he's gotta be a top 4 on a cheapish contract.

Is that possible?

Could maybe keep Kapanen and Johnsson if they can move Marleau.

The only team Marleau might waive for IMO is San Jose.

He doesn't want to uproot his large family again

... but they still have their house in San Jose.

They're kinda rooted in TO now so I'm not sure.

Or they could Orpik him, like I've mentioned...

I would still add Nylander to this team for the right price. Not sure about Hornqvist.

Moving Boeser to LW (he plays that side anyhow on the PP) and putting Nylander on the RW.....with Petey and Nylander creating and dishing it's not a stretch to think Boeser could be a 40-50 goal winger.

Until the playoffs when a feather in a stiff wind would flatten our top line

All kidding aside, the line would probably end up being one of the best. Could be 22+ million tied up in it though.
Elias will probably never be mean but could end up round abouts where the Sedins were with the sticks and elbows.
Brock will get tougher as time goes by.
Believe it or not, I think Nylander will become as nasty as necessary as time goes by, But, as long
as he's with laughs, I'll tease the the bejesus out of him.
Beat the crap out of Dubas though didn't he Tuna?

Tuna realizes that this was The Year for the Leaves, and they blew it. Now watching Boston waltz down the easiest path to the Finals in NHL history is like rubbing salt in the wound.

I don't know if he'll ever recover... maybe we'll see him around once the next Leaves rebuild is over - so about 10-11 years from now.

He'll be back planning the parade in September. :D

Edit: he dropped by May 6, but didn't stop to say Hi.
