I was also on the "don't sign this headcase" bandwagon, but have lightened up since then. I still think he'll take a lot of dumbass penalties, but could still end up a net-positive for the team. I hope/think his off-ice distraction days are behind him, and hopefully he'll want to put his best out there for the home team.
Just one more question mark in a season full of them.
Contract year might play smarter and harder…
That's what we hope ratman. He has some edge ......which we need. It's a cheap price and he seems pretty fired up to be home.

The off ice distractions have been around forever, and yet, by and large, Kane has performed well on the ice. The first set of off ice issues were in Winnipeg, IIRC. But he wasn't cooked in Buffalo. Off ice issues pegged him as cooked before he got to San Jose. Then he wasn't. Before he got to Edmonton. Then he wasn't. Maybe they kept him from hitting his ceiling, but he's still been a valuable part of each of those teams at least for some time.
I worry more about health than "off ice," at this point. And on ice, you've pegged it correctly. He's going to take way too many dumb ass penalties. Some dumb ass penalties are to be expected when part of a player's game is to be an effective pest because pests need to go right up to the line and over it when you think you can get away with it. But you don't always know where the line is or when you can get away with more. Kane gets rung up more because there are times when he doesn't really seem to care whether he might get away with it.

True - and that might be the biggest complaint we'll have against him. Taking dumbass (dumb ass?) penalties with a lack of concern on the outcome is the sign of a selfish player. Do it enough times and you wear out your welcome, to the fans and in the dressing room. Good luck Captain Quinn!

Maholtra extended through 26-27.

Thanks Wids. I figured Foote was a place holder and a continuance of the previous regime.
He wasn't ready to bounce to Pittsburgh or another team. I think he will be a hell of a coach for this team.

I think it was a club option on his current contract, Van would have to be daft not to pick that up.
Still has an out for those two years, if offered a HC position in the NHL though.
A bit awkward for timing, as this year will be a "by" for Foote - and next will be make/break. With the Hughes thing etc., might have just been better to go with Manny, if he was in the cards from the beginning.
Unless Foote really surprises (doesn't strike me as the type of coach that adds to the winning %, just likely won't take away from it IE: Desjardins) - I don't think he is the solution here, and we've seen the success AHL coaches have when promoted, along with a number of their top AHL players (IE: Sullivan). With Ratu, Karlsson and perhaps Mancini up with the big club, and at least one playing meaningful minutes - might have been the time?

Foote as coach was probably more to do with keeping QH43 happy than anything.

LOL, that backfired - apparently was nagging him all summer.

Jim says Petey put the work in this summer; he didn't last summer.
Foote said Woo, Mueller, and Rybinskis are rehabbing injuries. All Abbotsford guys.
Rutherford brushed aside some nonsense about Hughes from Farhan.
Jim hopes a couple of the young guys make the team. He thinks a few of them are close.
Allvin believes we have the best goalie pipeline in the league, and the best tandem in Demko and Lankinen.
Getting close on a practice rink - Rutherford.

And if everything goes right we are a playoff team, but everything has to go right. Won’t be his fault or Alvin’s if everything doesn’t go right, right?

Just a bit of ribbing I think - quoted from Sportsnet:
"Canucks captain Quinn Hughes spoke publicly for the first time since the season ended in April, revealing that he had to tell Foote to stop calling him for a couple of weeks.
“If I didn’t tell him that, he’d have been on the phone with me every four or five days,” Hughes said in an interview with Sportsnet’s Iain MacIntyre."
