No, no need, Lets not worry about other teams, lets just stay in our own backyard and compare Bennings youth building in 2.5 years to the 6 years of Gillis prospect pool building and his legendary 13 - 1st and 2nd round picks in 6 years of drafting that he left the new regime to work with
Canucks can't score goals
Grabner 25 goals, tied for 4th in the NHL in goal scoring
What do we have to show for Grabner? Fantastic asset mgmt
How much better is this team if that idiot Gillis left Buyout Ballard well enough alone and had drafted one of Kuznetsov or. Charlie Coyke or Brock Nelson? How does a line of Kuznetsov and Grabner sound right now?

Kuuznetsov and Grabner as Canucks? There's your missing offense. Thank you Mike Gillis
Kuznetsov - 12 goals, 31 assists or
Coyle - 13 goals, 29 assists or
Brock Nelson - 13 goals 17 assists
Grabner - 25 goals 9 assists
There's that missing middle aged part of the lineup
Gillis regarding Ballard trade "we didn't like what was on the board when our turn to pick came up"
LMAO
The Buyout Ballard trade will go down as the single biggest curse and torch passing chain breaking this organization will ever see. That and the 10th overall pick that eventually got us a drunk coke head in the minors - Kassian when we could have drafted - Eric Karlsson
There's your 1st PP unit - Grabner, Kuznetsov and Karlsson
Buyout Ballard and the Coke head
More
Rikard Rakell drafted right after Niklas Jensen has 22 goals 9 assists
Marcus Johansson drafted right after Jordan Schroeder - 17 goals 19 assists
Brady Skjel drafted right after Gaunce - 2 goals 22 assists
Kuznetsov
Grabner
Rakell
Johansson
Karlsson
Skjel
All could have been ours

You've lost the plot. This thread is for discussing the current GM Elmer Benning.

Jeeesus, give it up already! You're like a parrot with a limited repertoire of things to say and you just keep saying it over and over and over again. Give ys all a break would ya - STOP IT. Take a break. Read a book. Buy a computer game if that turns your crank... Start a reality outside of here for awhile. Take some time off of work and we'll all pitch in to fly u somewhere. You get the drift right?. No need getting your ego out of sorts because one poster is saying to you what most every ither poster would like to say to you. Time to move on RD

Your thoughts on the ground work ole Gillis laid out for the next regime? And has that had any bearing on the teams current struggles? Compared to the young core group that was left for Gillis?

I anticipate this little dance with Bubbles Macuzzi and his wingman - IslandFarm to last 2-3 years. That is when daylight will finally set on their creepy little minds.
It's purely comparables until they stop their nonsense with Benning

If we want to discuss how well Benning is doing with respect to the Canucks' current level of performance, then it is reasonable to ask how much of any perceived deficiencies are attributable to his predecessor. I tried to address that question before by comparing the ratio of Benning players to Gillis players, by numbers and payroll. I accept that there are limitations in that methodology, and would be interested in any improvements you could offer.
If we want to discuss how well Benning is doing with respect to the soundness of his blueprint for the team, his plan for getting them there, and how well his moves to date reflect the successful implementation of that plan, all of those things can, and should, be addressed in the context of the current ownership/management group alone.
I, for one, am winning to concede for the sake of argument anything you care to assert about the state of the franchise when Benning took over. The question is, did his moves follow logically from that state ? For example, if it was the utter basket case that you make it out to be, why would he imagine (or profess) that it could be turned around quickly on the fly ?
One of my theories is that Benning may have failed to correctly assess the state of the franchise when he took over, and his actions at the time reflect that faulty assessment. If that's true, it's on him, and him alone. I think a more likely variation on this theme is that, if a faulty assessment of the state of the team governed his moves in his first year, the faulty assessment was a collective failure by the ownership/management group.
Relating to the problem distinguishing the theories above, since we are trying to assess the quality of the work that Benning is doing, I'd also be interested in any ideas from posters on this board in how to tease out which decisions are Benning's, and which derive from elsewhere in the ownership management group.

So what is the appropriate amount of time before a team can honor a former GM? 5 years...10?
After all Gillis and Gilman built a solid contender and brought the team within a few saves of the cup. We hold high regard for captain video and Pat Quinn...i think Mike should be recognized for building a pretty solid team...dont you dude?
Oh and dont try lavishing praise on the cheeseburgler for it...when Nonuts was dumped the team was floundering about in a funk...he was just lucky enough to inherit a couple of emerging twins and some quality vets

Every contender seems to follow a pattern of being a top team (which means mailing off assets to push the team over the top) followed by a rebuild to acquire top assets through the draft. Exactly the pattern Mike was following
The perennial middling teams (like what genius Jim looks to be building) always seem to be falling short of contending then aleays draft mid teens and miss the chances of adding franchise assets. Obviously there are draft steals but the real deal stars always tend to come from top picks.
So come on dude...qualify Bennings genius for us. As we watch one of the worst teams ever to dress for this hapless franchise...tell us how awesome the teams direction is...
