Agreed.

But at 6 years X 6 million at what point do he and the team quality achieve that happy medium where both benefit?

Within a time parameter limit where he still is capable of what you describe?

Fair to both he and they to move him along for assets towards that rebuild perhaps.

Indeed, if that is what the player wants.

I'd say that a team can have one vet on a contract like his as they return to competitive form.....particularly with what the cap is projected to be in several years.

It won't upset me to see him go, but I also see the value in him staying when compared to any other veteran in our current forward group.

Shall we amend the thread title to first?

Can’t find his tweet now, pretty sure it was Thomas Drance who said it, but he said: ‘don’t be surprised if Kane is not traded and he will probably need to sign a PTO next training camp.’ Simply put he also said that Kane has no value right now.

5 even strength points the past 20 games.

His last goal was Dec 16, empty net.

Before that Nov 26.

Next year big contact big term.
I have not reallly been looking at anyone’s point totals this year.

When your centers are Kämpf and Riechel (or a snakebit Petey) for a large portion of the year, you will not produce points like you have in the past. (This applies to all our wingers this year)

Quoting myself as this part is my opinion.

Kane can be traded but he appears to be every team’s 3rd or 4th choice. If the Canucks do trade him be prepared for a 5 - 7 round pick coming back. Is the Canuck management prepared for the public fallout of habit that return? Surely the optics of not trading him at all is worse.

I would let him ride out the season rather than move him for anything lower than a 4th. Not trading him? IF management is upfront about the offers they got on him, then fine. Optics at this point don't really matter. We're already staring at the bottom of the barrel.

I’d move him for whatever you can get. I am surprised if there’s no market; he has played decently, skates pretty well, and can be deployed in a couple of different ways.

A 5th or 6th isn’t terribly valuable, but a flyer is worth more than nothing and these are the kinds of picks that get tossed into trades to move up a few spots in the 2d or 3d or 4th round to grab a guy your scouting team thinks is a tier above what else remains.

Take what you can get for a UFA at the deadline in a year where you are 10 points adrift of 31st overall.

5 6 7 picks.

We have to ice an AHL team as well.

Pick a thug who can protect our higher end assets with the later pick.

Its also about organizational assets...

Myers to Dallas for 2nd round in ‘27 and 4th in ‘29

At least that drama is over. Vancouver also retain 50% of his contract.

Seems a fair return - about what many were expecting?

Myers gets some playoff games.

Next?

If this Myers trade gies through as reported, it is not a bad return. I am please ownership is willing to pay (salary retention) to get a little more of a return, though they can only retain on 3 and may need it for others.

I am also happy for Myers to be going to Dallas and not Detroit (who I expect he said he wouldn’t waive to go to). I suspect that he envisioned retiring as a Canuck and remaining in BC, and that the “cost” to him of being a mentor on a bad team was something he’d probably have been willing to endure. It wasn’t going to cost him in his next contract, it isn’t like there is much of a career opportunity to eat away. The only thing that might incentivize a move is a real shot at the cup, and the Stars have that (though they could easily be a first round exit, such is the top 3 in the central who are arguably the top 3 in the league). The Red Wings? Not so much. Plus, there would have been a good chance that the Wings would be on the wrong side of the playoff line next year, meaning Myers had a much higher chance of being moved again.

But will he this week when San Jose moves him?
