Losing Hamhius almost single handedly cost them a cup in my eyes. He was all world that run.
The Canucks couldn’t score their way out of a torn wet paper bag that series. Hamhuis wasn’t making a difference there.

Souls crushed and humiliated by Luongo's inability to stop a beach ball led to prolonged sighs and despair. Danny Boy was the key to moving puck out of trouble

Has the speedbagging of Daniel "Bobblehead" Sedin been wiped from your memory banks?
Talk about soul crushing.

Luongo stood on his head in games 1 and 2. The Canucks couldn’t put up more than 4 goals between those games. Scoring was a problem from the outset. He then closed the door for game 5.
The Canucks scored 7 goals in 7 games.

That was when I officially never wanted to see another Swede play for Vancouver again.

...or have a league that calls blatant penalties without being obvious with respect to who they want to win (my Jacob's comment).

TT kinda had something to do with the lack of scoring.
Knew we were doomed the moment a wrister from Ryder at top of the faceoff circle went in.
Beyond that, I did think that 2011 team was a little overrated despite leading practically every category in the reg season.
A great shutdown 3rd line, but very little in way of offense from the bottom six. Something most Cup winners have. We can "boast" guys like Glass & Oreskavich.

They were the best team in the league 2 years running.
Then they let it fall apart....
The GM at the time should have done more pre playoffs to fill holes.
...as you make a nod to.

We would have been a pretty different team Samuelsson and Malhotra, you’d have a bottom six of Higgins-Malhotra-Hansen and Glass-Lapierre-Torres with fringe guys like Oreskovich, Tambellini, Hodgson etc out of the lineup entirely

I don't know, we're talking about depth from a bunch of slightly above average players in guys like Samuelsson & Raymond, as opposed to real difference making players to help alleviate the top guys, who were disappointing. Not sure they would've changed our fortunes much. Beyond Kesler, I didn't really exactly love our 2nd line either. I always felt there just needed to be one more guy to complete the puzzle up front.
Those Pres teams were good lead by a couple star players, a well-rounded D, and incredible regular season goaltending, but never screamed Champions to me. Kinda like the Jets of the past two seasons.
Yet they were just one more good Luongo performance away from crossing that line.

...as I said...Gillis didn't do his job and close the deal.

Agreed. I remember back then placing importance in adding that one more piece up front and the disappointment in not getting it.
Our 2011 depth scoring...
Higgins 4g in 25 games played
Hansen 3 in 25
Lappierre 3 in 25
Torres 3 in 23
Raymond 2 in 24
Samuelsson 1 in 11
Hodgson 0 in 12
Malhotra 0 in 6

Gillis inherited his core.
He was a chickenshit GM who was afraid of paying a hefty price for a game changer because it might not work out.....nothing ever made sense.
