He started out great and then had a couple of injuries and has never been the same since. He he his shown some skills, so he isn't a complete failure.
Listed at 6', 178 lbs. Not as extreme as EP40, but still another example of what I was talking about.
If a team does take a chance on an undersized player, it seems wiser to bring him along slowly, and either in safer development leagues, or with actual deterrent levels of protection (if that even works in the AHL).
I wasnt dissing the guy, just evaluating where he is today.
In no world should the canucks give up an asset for something that was free 10 days ago.
After. IF the Canucks take him on, it really should be Zary + mid round pick for futures. That’s it.
Even then, I am not sure they should do it.

They shouldn't.
Also...
Brah has had 2 knee injuries and it has hampered his skating significantly.

If calgary was offering at least a 3rd round pick, Canucks should consider it, assuming it was only futures going back or Chytil.

Neither was I.
It was just a comment on draft resource allocation and player development strategies.

The Vancouver Canucks have placed Aatu Raty on waivers.
Bains stays alive a little longer...

With the caveat that I don't know what I don't know (about attitude, habits, work ethic), and with the perspective that the player has a diminishingly small chance of having a meaningful long term impact on this team and so the stakes are small, and with the humility that Malhotra and Foote (presumably guys with more info) were seemingly of the same mind about the player; I don't understand this move and haven't really understood why he's been scratched so much given that (1) he plays center and the Canucks have played at center three guys better off at wing (Cotter, O'Connor, Sasson), (2) he can win faceoffs and the rest of the team is poor in that area and possession is a major problem, (3) while he's near the end of the runway in terms of developing into more, he's not at the end of the runway; (4) his "fundamentals" holes in terms of positioning and battle are not terrible. I get that he's slow-footed -- so is Baines, Gallagher, Boeser, and Karlsson. And there's a brief for Boeser and Karlsson that is better than for Raty (they both have acumen around the net, Boeser is also a sniper and good passer, and Karlsson is good on the wall). The brief for Gallagher is weaker on ice, but different (the vet thing), and one where he doesn't need to play every game to satisfy. Baines? Baffling. The speed (both foot and decisionmaking) is obvious; less obvious is his completely worthless play 5 on 5 in the defensive zone.
And what's the need here? Are the Canucks ready to give Mueller or Cootes a shot? If there was a reason to develop them further in the AHL, a couple of weeks doesn't make the difference. Is there a hope that Raty has more development to do down there and he just needs the ice time and there's an okay chance he gets through waivers? Possibly, but the fact is there's not a great reason (which we can see by watching games) why that question isn't "AHL at 17 minutes a night or NHL at 12 minutes" instead of "AHL at 17 minutes a night or press box".
I guess this is "necessary" because Chytil is about to become activated, right? Somebody was going down -- I'd have chosen Baines because he's a zero or Mancini because he really should be playing some hockey.

Bains needs to be the best player in Abby that never gets called up.
The bar that everyone down there needs to be better than to GET the call up. Abbottsford players compete against Bains to be better than him to earn the call up.
Once that happens, we will be competitive again.

Strange decision here, don’t they know Chytil’s health history? Do the Canucks really believe he will stay healthy this entire season?

They are tired of reading us critique them over Bains v Raty.
Remove the irritant.
Its (allegedly) the TFG's way.

I am surprised but not really. There is something we don't see I guess. Raty has not lived up to his promise but to me he was more valuable than Bains. I hope he gets claimed and goes on to have a good career.

....he had a great World Championships as a bottom 6 stalwart with 7 points in 10 games and he and the team had an opportunity to build and grow from there.
The Canucks gave him a training camp and 4 games....

Aatu Räty has cleared waivers. (Not really a surprise there)

I was reading that the Canucks looked at several options around Raty, including a trade. There was apparently no interest. I would imagine they were confident he would clear. That part surprised me, that there were no takers on the trade front. Not even a 7th round pick or future considerations.

When you're being waived by the 30th place team (that projects as the second worst team on paper), chances are there are only one or two teams that would even consider claiming you.
I'm a little surprised that Calgary didn't take him.
