The NHL and NHLPA are currently negotiating potentially changing ALL currently scheduled dates.
Including the date free agency begins.

If you change one date, you have to change most... if not all... dates. Dominoes.

https://www.pensionplanpuppets.com/2020 ... ne-lotteryQUESTION: What is the NHL gonna do about free agency which starts on July 1 if the league is still running a playoff system at that time. When will free agency be moved to? — Bob
ANSWER: The league and NHLPA will have to negotiate a change in all critical offseason dates if 2019-20 remains in abeyance. Contracts would have to be extended. Free agency could not take place until completion of the playoffs.
https://www.howlings.net/tag/university ... hampshire/July 1: Most signing bonuses are paid and players contracts have formally expired or flipped to the next year. Some players must provide no-trade clause lists.
In order to play hockey after June 30 — hockey that is part of the 2019-2020 for purposes of calculating Hockey Related Revenue, contractual control of players, insurance, and a host of other things — the NHL and the NHLPA will have to agree to a formula for moving their fiscal year end and their entire calendar of year-end activities to some future date. And they might be doing it without any future date firmly in mind. They might be doing it purely speculatively.
If player contracts are just going to be extended — let’s say to August 31 for the sake of picking a day — then signing bonuses and free agency might get moved to some date in early September. That leaves enough time after the potential playoffs to fit in buyouts, qualifying offers and enough offer sheet speculation to satisfy the fans, just in time for training camp to begin for next year.
https://www.thestar.com/sports/breakawa ... enzy-.htmlThere is a myriad of tricky issues, one of which is that players with contracts that are set to expire on June 30th. There would likely need an addendum or some other sort of legal instrument that would be approved by both the NHL and NHLPLA to extend the deals till September 1st.
Assuming everything is done by August, free agency would begin in September for both the NHL and AHL. At that time, the NHL Draft, potentially virtually as the NFL did, could possibly be held.
The answer is simple: A change in the end of everyone’s contract will be collectively bargained
... free-agent frenzy will be on another day, probably in the fall.

don't worry Doc,
Its just Gomer being Gomer.
At least on the response he gave you, he didn't flip flop 3 times in his own post.
He was direct with his answer.
Wrong, but direct.

So how do you feel about the prospect of free agent season beginning, say, Sept 1.

Actually I don't have a problem with that.
inre to the draft, the kids that have already put in most of the time in hopes of being drafted; need to know where they stand..
To be honest, Doc, I don't totally trust Mother Russia, (maybe a couple more), could start interfering with what should be an NHL process.

Re: 2020 NHL Draft
You missed my point. If there is an opening round or round robin format and the Canucks lose to a lower seeded team and end up with a pick in the 8-12 range, I will be pissed if the league makes them cough up that pick to the Devils regardless of how well Miller played. They should have an option to keep it or send it to the Devils if a scenario like this plays out.The Brown Wizard wrote: ↑Tue May 19, 2020 8:08 amYou need to letgo.com of that pick Doyle. Its gonner than the chef's gonorrea. We have Miller now and that pretty fuckin good enoughDoyle Hargraves wrote: ↑Tue May 19, 2020 8:04 amAnything can happen in a short tournament and let’s not pretend this improving young team doesn’t have warts. It isn’t a juggernaut. Point is I’d want to keep that pick in the event that it’s 8-12.Richardstroker69 wrote: ↑Tue May 19, 2020 7:52 amWe ain’t getting stomped the boys are hungry!Doyle Hargraves wrote: ↑Tue May 19, 2020 7:18 am So if the league jams this bastardized 24 team tournament down everyone’s yaps and the draft is pushed to the end of the season, what if Vancouver gets stomped in the first round by a lower seeded team, then what? That could end up being a top 10 pick. No way that should go to the Devils.

Yeah like BW says, let it go McKoozles. JT Miller is like a gift from the hockey gods thanks to the 2020 1st round pick. That’s enough for me. It would be a Lafrenierre like miracle to get anything as good as what JT Miller has been for us with that pick and you know that ain’t happening.
