If Hughes does the American thing, though, hopefully management thinks twice before drafting an American in any but the 5th round or later. They won't be drafting them - they'll be developing them for an American team before too long.
The American thing?
JT is American. He took less to stay in Vancouver.
If Quinn leaves it will be to do the winning thing.

Matthews as well, Kyle O’Connor too. It’s not about “American” thing it’s about the state of the organization and how it’s being managed that usually makes the difference

Matthews is a diva.....he has been a fashion whore and loves the red carpet. But he did stay in Tarranna when he could have left. Hard to say with him.

Guess he prefers being a Demi-deity in Hogtown than just another pro-athlete in the States.

If you think that ownership is interfering, then I guess you think Rutherford is lying when he told you over and over again that they aren't...
If ownership is souring on Rutherford and Alvin, I wonder where Tallon fits into all of this and if his prefered direction for the team differs from Rutherfords?....
And its interesting that there is still no word on the buyout of Paolo's shares which some estimate could cost as much as $4-500 million...
Franchise values continue to rise so unless there is an agreement already in place and they are waiting on bank financing or finding a new partner you'd think that they would want to get it done asap.

What is he supposed to say, that they are and it is all their fault?
What anyone says in public is usually full of half truths and innuendos.

Ok..........76 year old multiple Stanley Cup winner with over 40 years in managment with an estimated net worth of $50 million is going to come out of retirment and move out West to be a puppet for ownership and lie to the public?
That's the narritive that makes sense to you?

My question to you is, would a 76 year old multiple Stanley Cup winner with over 40 years in management with an estimated net worth of $50 million come out of retirement and take this team down the path that has occurred since he came here without interference from his bosses who has a reputation for interfering or has this team just had shit GMs not just for their term but for last 10+ years?
JR is not calling the owners everyday and asking them what to do but the current strategy is definitely set directly or indirectly by the owners.

JR is calling the shots which is what he has told us over and over and over....
If ownership comes to the conclusion that they have a problem with his leadership and direction then you will see a mutual parting of ways....
Suggesting that Rutherfod is a puppet for ownership is silly...
Assuming that Rutherford and ownership let the contract play out, what will be interesting to watch is if Alvin and Tallon and the Asst GM's stick around or if they move on....

Nonis - Wouldn't trade for Brad Richards at the expense of the future. Fired.
Gillis - Built around some strong pieces and wanted to rebuild when it was clear the 2010-2012 window had closed. Fired.
Linden - Wanted to rebuild properly. Hired Benning because of his drafting/scouting reputation. Mutual parting of the ways (even Aqua knew firing Trevor would be a really bad look).
Benning - Stuck around post-Linden to try and re-tool but when it was clear more was needed and rebuild was rumoured.....fired.
A pattern emerges.
Rutherford - Resume is well known, loves the game, seems the type that wants to die behind his desk rather than retire. I can see him towing the Aquaplan because it keeps him in the business and presents a different challenge for a guy on his last hurrah.
Allvin - Token GM who is biding his time until the old guy kicks off.

Mistakes that stand out for me, one mistake that led to another, the snowball affect from mistake no. 1:
1. Not recognizing the level of toxicity caused by Miller
2. Trading Horvat instead of Miller
3. Trade for Lindholm
4. Not executing Pettersson for Necas trade
5. Pettersson’s contract
6. Not signing Zadorov
7. The Miller trade for concussion Chytil, Mancini, 1st pick
8. Flipped NYR pick M. Pettersson (see not signing Zadorov)
9. Not flipping, or using the NYR first pick to acquire a centre
10. Not signing Suter/signing Kane.
11. Demko contract, the injury troubles are concerning
12. Waste of time and picks - Reichel, Kravtsov, Kampf, etc
13. Losing Tocchet
I know I’m missing some.

“You have to understand the past to avoid repeating it”
Would I be correct in saying that the reason this organization keeps repeating the same managerial mistakes over and over is possessing a complete disregard to past mistakes?
