Chinakov is interesting as is Sillinger. Columbus is loaded with young talent. Not sure what they would want from Vancouver.
Bottom line is they freed up 3.25 million. Joshua had a good year in 23/24. But he's showed up obese to 2 of 3 camps.
Are you including the camp where he was just finishing up radiation and chemo for his nut cancer? It was a dumb move imo to trade him after his first season back from a major health issue. He was getting obviously better as the season went on. If he returns to 23/24 form, it will be a terrible trade. And, we only got a 4th. That trade is available every single day regardless of our cap status as a team.
Plus, even if we get another 4th for Chytil, we still only have $6mil to get a #2 center, and I doubt the magic center fairly is coming anytime soon. In isolation, this move is a D at best. And possibly a solid F.
Unless the boys pull a magic nut from their own sacks, and find a true top half #2 center for Chytil and a few 4ths, we will be gutting our roster for 1 position. And while it makes a great story for the press, it rarely works for the team.

The new crew have traded quite a few players within a year of signing or trading:
Ilya Mikheyev
Danton Heinen
Anthony Beauvillier
Sam Lafferty
Vincent Desharnais
Dakota Joshua
Lazar
Who am I missing?
Do these cats not think things through before pulling triggers? They remind me of Pakistani parade goers firing off AK-47’s into the sky.
Yup, have to really question their pro scouting, if they though Desharnais and Juulsen could replace Cole and Zadorov. The worst two were the buyout of OEL and retention on Mikheyev that continue to handcuff the team, when both were decent players probably recovering from injury, much like Joshua. There is a pattern emerging of management getting upset with recovering injured players’ performance and selling low.

LOL.
Pittsburgh was organized such that no chairs other than the core were bolted to the deck. Complements are brought in, evaluated, and moved on. How long was Tanner Pearson in Pittsburgh? That's what's happening here -- though the Canucks core is itself in a bit of flux....
I don't mind moving on from signings that didn't quite work, unless of course there's a cost to moving them or there was a significant opportunity cost in signing them. And there's obviously some of that in this group (Mikeyev the worst), but for others its sort of bodies in bodies out. All acquisitions have uncertainties, and I think I'd rather have a management that is willing to move on quickly from mistakes rather than hold on to them, circling the wagons.
Of course, better still is to make fewer mistakes. Best, though, is to get big wins. And on that score, they have one: moving Horvat (and a second) for what ended up being Hronek, Raty, Mueller, and the asset that helped acquire Zadorov for a season (from the Beau2 traed to Chicago). I think Hronek was a great pick up, and Hronek alone was a "win" for the Canucks on the deal given their needs and how much he stabilized the D. If Raty turns into a middle 6 center, defensively responsible, good at the dot, 40 point player with a reasonable salary, then the Horvat tree should be viewed as one of the better deals in Canucks history. And if Mueller makes it, too, well, that would be an absolute home run.
Other deals/acquisition are works in progress, but there's a fair chance the DeBrusk signing will look very good in hindsight. Year one was decent value. The Miller deal has a chance to turn out okay in the way that lemons can be turned into lemonade, but lemonade is still inferior to beer or coffee or coke zero, and even sparkling water is going to give lemonade a run for its money.

IAny complaints about the contract without considering that it reaches into an expected cap north of $120 million is naive in my opinion...
Wow, if only a poster had just done the work to demonstrate that the salary for the role is a significant outlier even factoring in the expected cap increase and analyzing the deal as a percentage of the expected total cap.... But, ah, analysis based on adjusted value and comparison to 31 other NHL teams' behavior is "naive". Cuz feels and stuff. Got it.

Joshua had three years here. A least they can identify mistakes. You probably yearn for the days of Sutter, Gudbranson and Sbiza getting locked down for serious coin and term.

No I'm talking about the other two camps where he had more chins than a Chinese phone book. Try to keep up. They have tons of cheap winger depth in the system. But if you think trading Dakota Joshua and shedding 3.25 million is gutting the team, you do you.
They can also move out some cap in a deal for a solid centre. It's a really neat thing.

It tells me a couple of things:
1. They ain’t doing their due diligence
Or
2. Their due dilligence needs work.

So you are holding them to a higher standard than you did regarding previous management?

Once he lost his nut he was half the player he was before.
Didnt the old man deal with yellow teeth post nut removal and also decide to move on from him as well?
The old man doesn't want one nutters

They take calculated risks, and then don't get sentimental or fall for the sunk-cost fallacy when they don't work out.
It seems to me that NHL managers are almost always working from incomplete information, and so many roster decisions must necessarily be in the nature of an experiment.

I feel like Chef has gotten better about acknowledging the successes and failures of each management team, but yes, it also feels like his standards are not consistent.

The thing I don't like about him going to Tarrana is that by acquiring Joshua the Leaves now have more balls than they did before.

Hence, why they prefer mining the fields where they once roamed. That being said, they need to do better in this department. It’s coming across as “lacking” the proper intel. Which I find surprising in this day and age.
