Wasn't there a rumor floating around that Babcock and Shanny do not get along? Or was that media fluff?

They are simply not a very good team. Closer to the Flames and Canucks than the Penguins or Blackhawks, that's for sure.
I'm a little worried if Carlyle doesn't get fired this season that they're not only gunning for a high draft pick, but that they also have designs on Mike Babcock - and think they can actually sign him.

People said Burke would never go to the leaves. Babcock will go where the money is.

The flip side of the coin being that the money will go to Babcock.. be it from the Red Wings, leaves or any other franchise with a vacancy and a desire for a top drawer head coach.

Color me naive if you see fit but I do see Mike Babcock neither as a mercenary nor a greed monger.

I think he will be where he can win now and moving forward and that fact, in combination with money (which he is going to receive anywhere he goes regardless), will be where he coaches.

Burke went to TO because of ego. He wanted to be The Man in the biggest market and The Man who turned them around.

Rember when making these comparisons, Burke was a GM, he was the guy moving players, Babcock is a coach, he works with what the GM has given him.

Wilson and Carlyle are both good coaches who have been unable to get the misfit players signed in TO to function. Why would Babcock wish to add his name to that list. The wholesale changes that Shanahan/Nonis/Nonis replacement would need to make are bigger than the mess JFJr left behind.

I'd look for Babcock, IF he were to move, a team of probably young emerging players may be attractive and he could nurture what he did in Detroit. Dallas, with Jim Nill, is obvious if things continue to be Ruff ly inconsistent. the Panther's stable that Stevie Y has assembled may also be attractive. Both have the Ken Holland trained management he's familiar with.

You can bet Burke would swing for the fences on Bobcock for the kids in Calgary and if he was really looking to get in on the ground floor of a rebuild, Buffalo could be attractive.

Yeah, I'll modify my original statement.

The youth theory being attractive makes sense as well.

In the end a team with a chance to win moving forward, which the Leaves appear not to be at this time.

Ontario-born guys have a very odd attachment to the leaves, which is sadly not an attachment you see in BC-born players :scowl:

There are a billion reasons why logic would dictate Babcock should steer clear of that trainwreck...but emotions have overborne several people's logic circuits and drawn them in to that circus over the years.

I hadn't heard those rumours about Shanny vs Babcock, nor did I hear that the vets didn't like Babcock. Could you imagine how that country club locker room would feel with Babcock kicking their asses!! Its...almost...like that's exactly what upper management would be looking for in a coach... :look:

Wasn't it Burke who fired Babs in Duckland to bring in "his" guy, Carlyle?

Basically, Babs did not want to play for Burke. It was a mutual parting of company.

A lot of jobs could open up again next year. SJS come sto mind, as does Anaheim if they fail to go deep. Pittsburg could be looking again if things don't go well there. Edmonton could be looking. Babs will get his money wherever he goes. I think he looks for autonomy and opportunity to win. I wouldn't count Detroit out even if they are now just a middle of the pack team. They are one good goaltender away from being back in the mix.

Edmonton will always be looking until they fire Lowe and get some real management in there. I thought that MacT was a decent coach who knew how to get the most out of what he had, and is probably a decent read on players. I suspect he is handcuffed by Lowe.

San Jose needs to make the conference finals this year or there will be a fire sale.

:D

The Leaf players brought this latest controversy upon themselves.

It's no coincidence that they decide to bitch-slap their fans after 2 games of jerseys-tossed-on-the-ice

... not to mention the SCREAMING Leaf nation has been doing on social media the past few days.

For YEARS they salute the fans after every home win and stop... NOW??

NOW... while tensions have never been higher (thank you social networking!).

Leaf players have been expressing anger toward the Leaf media of late, and now they stick it to the fans!

OMG Leaf fans just got buttfucked on national television by their own players!!!

Personally I'm buying into the theory that this was Kessel's idea (watch him closely in the video).

A few years ago we found out Phil Kessel hates working out.

A few months ago we found out Phil Kessel “hates coaches".

A few days ago we found out Phil Kessel hates the media.

A few hours ago we found out Phil Kessel hates the fans.

How do YOU spell “C A N C E R”?

He was a cancer on the Bruins and now he’s a cancer on the Leaves.

Kessel: “I’ll put pucks in the net for a decade or two if you give me $100M and shut the fuck up”.

Phaneuf + Kessel are the funniest duo since Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels!!

OMG the leaders of the Toronto Maple Leaves are petulant petty children!

BLOW LEAVES BLOW!!!

Smacks of entitlement. They think they are there an so entitled. Forget who pays to watch them who buys the jerseys, who cheers them on through thick and thin. For the most part hockey players seemed above the frey where so many other pro sports had the spoiled children in their ranks. It must be the damn Americans on their team!

Way to try and keep the fans happy boys. Why not try a few more charity functions and some free autograph sessions. If you hate the media pull a Kesler.

Easily the worst leadership duo in the NHL. Phil won't play D, and Dion doesn't know how

I think Dion is more concerned about ensuring his walk-in closet is bigger than his wife's, and Phil is probably distracted by a hefty string of bad luck in high-stakes online poker.

That team needs someone that doesn't buy their own hype.

They're not Buffalo awful (only sometimes), but they aren't good either, and I don't see them getting any better, either. Gardiner has stagnated, Kadri is on drugs if he thinks he's the next JT, and their goalies both do great Jekyll and Hyde impersonations.

Help is on the way. Booth assigned to Marlies for conditioning stint.
