That was a veteran AHL squad, Cuz. It was exactly the kind of team that wins in that league. Not exactly prospect-laden. The few that did emerge were older, late blooming depth guys like Karlsson and Sasson, and the two goalies. Johnson and Malhotra deserve some props for winning the championship, but it didn't advance the franchise all that much.

For every Wouters or Wolanin, there was a Silovs, Lekkerimaki or Raty. The vets were key but it wasn't like they were all the team was.

Besides, last season was the first losing season since the farm moved to Abby. That's not for nothing.

Twas a veteran squad in my humble opinion Lancer. Lekker was a real blue chipper but he couldn't stay healthy. To me, the rest fits.

It's not meant as a slight at all, it's what it takes to win in that league.

When you think about it, winning a Caldr4 Cup with the worst-drafting franchise in the NHL is no mean feat...

This is an underrated point.

With basically no blue chip prospects, he put together a championship team.

He has nothing to work with in Van either - maybe he can do the same thing?

I've been pondering things since the recent "changes" took effect and have come to the conclusion that this management group is perpetuating the inherent apathy I have felt towards the team since the whole Miller Pettersson saga.

Am I just outgrowing NHL hockey or has this team finally done me in as a fan with their incompetent baloney?

I am still happily following along to the playoffs as always but when it came to the presser and the twins mumbling nonsense I have zero time or patience to hear what they have to say.

Somehow deep down I know they aren't going to make a lick of difference. That seems pretty unfair on my part but really though....is anyone confident that these "changes" are meaningful ones that will do anything whatsoever?

I hear ya Cuz - I honestly have no time for these 'media events' (never have, really) - but I still enjoy the tangible things - the draft will be fun this year. Soon enough it will be the prospects games, training camp, pre-season. Then the real games begin.

Once the season starts, we'll see if all this talk is just more bullshit, or if there is a new culture they're building, with the team making opponents earn their wins.

Then there will be the coaching change mid-season, which will shake things up for a few games.

I fully expect another bottom 3rd finish - maybe bottom 5 - but if I don't see a team at least trying, I'll find something else to do on game nights.

Speaking of pondering I have been mulling over the EP/JT situation of late and believe it goes way beyond just that (to the short and long term detriment of this franchise) at this point and have some things to say about it.

I pay attention to the Canucks and the league from afar (kind of like I do the ladies for the girls thread and Canadians for that one) but your last statement rings true.

Spin and BS is all we hear. And the message rarely changes. Yet we keep lapping it up like good little boys and girls.

What the actual fuck do the Sedins know about running a pro sports management team especially with FA/AIG looking over their shoulder daily....

...let's let them do their Kumbaya huggy thing and see what happens is the only choice I guess.

I'm 30K into them for this season so we will see how that plays out for 27/28.

Absolutely, positively nothing negative to say about ^these thoughts and feelings. It's factual and true.

We just lost any lingering emotional attachment to this 57 yo train-wreck due to the incredible incompetence and unwillingness to reflect and change. It's literally the straw that broke the camel's back.

But as a fan of this team, I feel the pilot light never fully shuts off. The entire Nation is burning to re-ignite again.

Jays have to step it up and start making a move.

Great analogy - my pilot light almost went out during the messier years - but I knew that era would end.

We're all just looking for something to get us going again, and reading cue cards at a press conference isn't it.

The apathy for me is the biggest challenge. Once upon a time I was a die hard. Never missed a game, even bought the PPV way back when. I can barely watch a full game anymore. I PVR most games and then decide if I want to watch and when I do I fast forward a lot. A far cry from the WCE days when you felt they could win every game and were fun to watch.

This franchise has a long way to go to earn back my addiction!

I don't know how many more years I have left, 5-10 if I'm lucky. My travel days are slowing down and it isn't too far off where travel will be too hard. I hope by then that the Canucks have turned it around and I can at least enjoy the ride again.

My faith and belief is still strong, perhaps just desperate hope.

They have to do something different to not only keep existing die hard fans but earn back the old guard. All the while attracting the newbies. We all know a full rebuild is the only way to go. There should be no untouchables on the team, at all. Trade whomever, as many as you can over the next 2-3 years, for the maximum picks and assets and add inexpensive vets on shorter terms.

They are talking the right language. Only time will tell if they have the fortitude, and knowledge, to pull it off. I just hope I am alive and aware enough to enjoy it.

Moving on from Pettersson is a small but significant step in the right direction.

If it doesn’t happen and he shows up for training camp, I just can’t see myself coming back, ever.
