If there’s no playoffs, there’s no fucking way the Devils should automatically get that pick. Canucks should have the choice at least.
I’d hope if they had the choice that they’d keep the pick. Could get a pretty good player at that point sand kick the rock down the road one year.

I dunno Doyle, I've heard it's not so awesome after the midway point of that first round.
Whether we get to keep the pick or not, I'm interested in who that player might be at say #17.

After the 9th/10th pick around there you’re getting a project, a decent project but no guarantee

We’d be just outside that 3rd tier. Wallinder looks like a decent D prospect. Either way I wouldn’t shit my drawers if the Devils take the pick. I’m doing the JT Miller trade a thousand times over. Outside of Lafrenierre and Byfield maybe there’s no other 2020 prospect I’d rather more than JT Miller

Holtz, Lundell and Zary are all excellent prospects. A lot better than Hendrix Lapierre. Pull your head out.
Just like 2017 was a garbage draft. There’s three guys in that draft that project to be top 20 players in the game and a host of other kids already making a mark and doing well. I had to read that shitstain from a couple of clowns over and over again about how shorty that draft was. It was an average draft, not the trainwreck the doomsday folk would have you believe.
2020 is an excellent draft.

Holtz Lundell and Zary will not be better than Miller and nor do I care to spend the next 5 years waiting to see if they could be at least half as good. So again, I could care less about the 17th overall pick in which I imagine that Holtz, Zary and Lundell should be gone by then

Nobody said they’d be better than Miller. And it’s a bit early to say that considering Miller himself broke out at age 26.
It’s about kicking the rock down the road one year. Adding a prospect to grow with the team considering they don’t have a 2nd in 2020 and just traded their 3rd best prospect.
Unless you think they have a shot at Luke Hughes in 2021.
You should always care regardless if you like the trade.

The easy solution is to make it Canucks choice what year they wish to surrender the pick. Make them declare 1 week prior to the draft.

And it should be a no-brainer. Keep the pick this year. Jim traded away a bunch of picks and if we give up the pick this year we have nothing in rounds 1 or 2, and maybe 3 and 4. I'd rather have a 1st this than no picks in the first 3 or 4 rounds and then only miss out on the 1st next year but have 2-4 still in the bank.
