I have none, I don't think anyone can figure out how to negotiate with him.
I have a list of things that don't seem to work. Some are directly related to trade. Some are just the entire relationship that affects trade.

Implement a digital tax, and then drop it.
Implement the same tax at 3 times the rate. Claim it was a government department that you don't control, and then reverse course and drop the new tax after finding out you do have the authority.
Put a whole pile or retributive tarrifs on items covered by CUSMCA, being the first side to violate CUSMA on this issue. Backtrack on these tarrifs.
Let the provinces ban alcohol (also covered by CUSMCA). Violates the spirit of CUSMCA.
Build a bridge, and then capitulate on revenue sharing, and not paying off the loan. And, lie about the agreement.
Don't send representatives to 2 important rounds of CUSMA negotiations.
Allowing 50,000 rising to 70,000 Chinese vehicles into Canada (about $$2-$3 billion per year), for a temporary drop on canola tarrifs (a $4billion export to china)
Actively ignore all signs of Chinese interference in Canada
Violate the "slave labour" laws in CUSMCA by not doing our due dilligence on Chinese imports.
Every time there is any progress, yell "Elbows Up", and reset the discussions. (Or let Ford run ads that you approve of)
Declare a "New World Order" and "we are on the menu" comments to the world.
Ignore any concerns over our Dairy supply management system/Dairy import restrictions.
Be totally flippant when asked about negotiations. Carry a calm demeanure of not giving a fuck if we ever get a deal.
Totally support your ally on Iran one day, and then say your ally violated international law the next day

All this before my 2nd cup of coffee.

I am all for allowing 50,000 rising to 70,000 Chinese vehicles into Canada. It's a precursor to having them built here to replace the US auto industry which is dieing a slow death anyways due to the Innovators Dilemma.

Why would we want Chinese stuff? Why partner with corporations that are OWNED by the Chinese government?

Wouldn’t it be smarter to try and partner with American automotive giants and try to solve the dilemma?

Folks I know who lived in Hong Kong just before the covid chaos, have great things to say about how advanced the Chinese EV's were then.

The concern is the spyware they carry.

Chinese EVs are already better than US or Japanese EVs.

Partnering with US auto manufacturers will have zero influence on their strategic direction. Not only have they not sufficiently invested in EV technology, they've abandoned the compact car segment to focus on pickups and SUVs, the more lucrative end of the market so they can report better profits to shareholders. Ruled by MBAs they will slowly become irrelevant.

If we can sort the spyware issue I don't care who owns the company who makes my car. Do you know who owns Ford? GM?

You can’t go into business with the Chinese government. They have the final say. Why would we want to become any closer to being their economic fief than we already are?

Why do they have the final say? It's our country.

Once you get in with the mob, you can't get out. And, in this analogy, China is the mob.

Why use an analogy instead of identifying the mob-like actions that China will take that we won't be able to escape or resist? Analogies and generalisations don't help to advance the discussion; they just shut it down.

Arguably the US is acting in a mob-like fashion these days, and it's not hard to believe this won't continue after Trump, but we're not talking about shutting down our auto industry.

China is destined to dominate the EV industry, so our choices are to import fully built cars from China, or to build/assemble them here. Or live with second-rate more expensive cars from the US and Europe.

My answer is build them here … our own. Fuck cheaper, cheaper doesn’t help our supply and or work force.

That's what I'm saying too Rats. Except we will need someone else's technology and design and it will be near impossible for us to develop our own. That's why we've never had a Canadian car company.

Why can’t we develop our own? Are we that pathetic of a people? Was Gilligan right, We’re just “hewers of wood and drawers of water”?

Canada certainly shit the bed way back when IP was becoming the new driver of economics…..but I digress.

But back to the development of our own bit…..

Why not partner with one (or more) of VW, Hyundai, GM, or Rivian, and pour into their development and manufacture shit here? Sure, China looks to dominate, but why not compete with them instead of getting in bed with a country that wants to use their state ownership of corporation to create in-roads and dominate our political sphere?
