And, the CBC reported it as a draw.

Carney deal with South Korea to bring auto manufacturing to Canada.

I guess that explains Ford's about-face after the China deal.

I hope Trump hasn't learned anything. I'd rather Canada keep on separating from the US.

He's such a disingenuous nasally dork. That shit he pulled in this riding should have ended his political career but unfortunately for the Conservative party of Canada he's still hanging in there.

Outside of pure politics, what is the reason for Carney trying to convince Canadians to buy the Gripen? The F-35 was chosen by the Conservatives in 2010, and again by Trudeau in 2023. And, the Trudeau selection system was designed for the F-35 to fail, as they railed against the F-35 from the start. And, the military is behind the F-35 too. This makes me believe the F-35 is really the only contender. Yet, I have full confidence Carney will choose a 40 year old airframe instead of a new F-35 as our once in a generation upgrade to the airforce.

If we are looking for a plane to compliment the F-35, and keep costs low, we should look at the Italian Alenia Aermacchi M-346 Master. It's twin engine, cheap, has long range for patrols, and it would replace our current trainers (we don't actually have one at the moment...) , and make the Gripen redundant. It's good as a trainer, patrol aircraft, and an interceptor against intrusions. And, yes, once the shooting starts, it's grounded, or used behind the lines while the F-35 does the real work.

I’d just go for som F16 FF’s if we’re looking for something less costly for long range shit that would then sit down when the shooting starts…..even though it wouldn’t actually need to be grounded.

F16 is cheaper than the Alenia Aermacchi M-346 Master and it’s used by the closest ally we have who happens to be the primary military force on the planet and would spearhead the defense of this continent that we are part of.

AI disagrees with you (therefore, go burn in hell, Mëds. :D )The F16 is a lot more expensive than a base M-346 and more expensive to operate. Regardless, there is no military need for the Gripen, and every need is better filled by other options. Carney selecting the Gripen is totally a personal choice for political reasons.

Gripens are built for arctic patrol and don’t need massive infrastructure investment to get them up and running. Plus they’ll give our domestic aerospace industry a boost by building them in canada.

I’d say roll out a mixed fleet

Per AI…..

The Alenia Aermacchi M-346 Master has a flyaway cost of approximately $25 million per unit. However, the total cost can vary based on additional factors such as maintenance and operational expenses over its lifecycle.

In an AI generated comparison of the F-15EX Eagle II and the F-16 FF, the cost of the F-15 is around $30M and the cost of the F-16 is $14M-$18M.

The mixed fleet is certainly more ideal. I’d cut the F-35 order in half and then take the saved money and buy another couple of options.

We are currently supposed to purchase 88 F35’s for $19B, which works out to over $200M per plane. Cut it in half and if you purchase jets that cost $50M you can buy 190 aircraft with the remaining $9.5B.

My AI said the F-16s were $50 -$60 a pop for new ones. I think the C/D version was listed at $25 mil. So there! But yeah, new F-16s are not a bad idea either. Or, buy em from S Korea. They have a domestic version, if my memory serves me. But the media loves its sexy Swedes, so they will push the Gripen and bullshit job numbers.

If Swedish jets perform like Swedish hockey players......we'll be fucked when the shooting starts and Per's international rulebook gets tossed.
