With Cootes heading to Abby and Chytil being Chytil it is interesting that they did not take a peak at Gauchers waiver availability.

Current centre depth would have us as:

EP
Rossi
Sasson**
Raty**

**or vice versa...

Imo Sasson projects better on the wing so I guess they figure with DeBrusk Karlsson/Ohgren Boeser/O Connor Lekk/Cotter Gallagher they are set on the perimeters and Max becomes a C by attrition regardless.

...or Chytil is short term IR...as unlikely as that may be.

Pretty soft down the gut with a serious lack of NHL capable depth.

Lekkerimaki can shoot the puck, but that’s about it.
Sasson can skate fast, but that’s about it.
They haven’t shown they can consistently contribute to winning in the NHL.
Neither should be a hard decision about sending down to the AHL if there is anyone decent on waivers.
Raty can take draws and kill penalties. Keeping him around as a 13th forward makes sense.
So there are two or three (depending on Chytil’s prognosis) forward spots that should be filled from the waiver wire, especially if they might have trade value at the TDL.
They could also use 7th and 8th defencemen if there are any better than Mancini put on waivers.
Two more days for the pro-scouts to earn their checks digging in the bowels of the waiver wire and finding gold, okay bronze… take a flyer on some tin.

Our timing to rebuild couldn't be worse there.

The league just announced they expect a very sharp increase in the cap for the 2028-29 season. I doubt anyone will be paying much for relief when they know that's coming.
