We're All Doomed!™ (the Conquest, War, Famine, and Death Thread)

The primary goal of this site is to provide mature, meaningful discussion about the Vancouver Canucks. However, we all need a break some time so this forum is basically for anything off-topic, off the wall, or to just get something off your chest! This forum is named after poster Creeper, who passed away in July of 2011 and was a long time member of the Canucks message board community.

Why does religion get a pass?
Why do you assume it does?

You've been away for 3 weeks come in now and make that statement?

The BS has been ongoing and site hampering.

Enough is enough.

I was just responding to Corn's statement. As a general statement I don't agree with it

Yeah the Dude is spamming but the problem isn't criticism of personal beliefs (a redundant term if there ever was one) but rather the spamming.

And you every right to disagree.

But.... none of know what Doc's, or anyone else's, deep convictions are. There is a huge difference between a belief that ScooterBoy40 will have (or not have) an amazing season next year. That's conjecture. It's a valid discussion. On the other hand, I'm not going to question anyone's personal faith, which they can nor can't prove, and has no bearing on me or this forum of almost 20 people. It's pointless. It would be trolling to continue on that path for years on end, wouldn't it?

Debate the merits of 'religion' all you want. Don't expect people to constantly defend a personal belief without some pushback.

Yes, agree in principle......however the politics and religion are the topic(s) du jour (for him) and responding to Dude directly about spamming or asking him to back the fuck off is a waste of time.

Partially because he isn't going to listen regardless.

Partially because he doesn't read threads but rather individual posts that work for him.

Didn't used to be that way.

Dude was a cog in the development of Central and the metamorphosis here....

Unfortunate.

Cornuck, how do you feel about “church and state” and “roe vs wade”?

Pretty simple to me, really. The 'state' (in the US, anyway) can't establish an official religion. It allows for anyone to worship as they see fit. From Baptists to the Church of Satan, it's a right. Any kind of religion in government-based activities should be avoided. But that will never happen, from every speech ending in "god bless the USA..." to the pledge of allegiance, it's everywhere. Of course, now there are states demanding (Christian) religious teachings in public schools. That should hopefully be overturned in any court.

As for Roe vs Wade, that's a legal case, that should have nothing do with religion. To me, it is about a medical procedure.

Of course.... the reality down here is a little more complex. The 'right' needed more support so they turned abortion into a political / moral issue, and got the evangelicals to throw their support that way. The majority of the population thinks it's a woman's choice, but now it's again coming back to the voters. November will be interesting, as this is a major issue now (thanks to the right).

Believing that I love my wife, kids, or dog is not unreasonable.

Believing in that Jewish dude in the sky, well that's a bit more fantastical. It deserves to be challenged

Doc offers no defense, just his personal experience. So the rebate logically now is, as Doc himself states, " Am I crazy or am I communicating with the creator/redeemer"?

My personal belief is that it's all an act (I offer no proof) :)

You're also assuming it's the "Jewish dude".

Actually, it's a Trinity, so "Them/They"?

As the Hamas-Israel war continues...

Israel struck Beirut today, targeting the Hezbollah boss they allege was behind the killing of 12 Golan Heights children.

This on the heels of Turkey's threat to invade Israel.

Iran is rumoured to be close to producing a nuke (which they have sworn to use on Tel Aviv).

The Middle East is the most likely place to spark WWIII...
