There was a shift in the team when Douglas was signed and he told, I believe it was Buium, “if anyone touches you, dead”.
That was a welcome shift, and I'm more than a little worried that we'll be going back to Sedin era "make them pay on the power play" attitudes. It's one of the big reasons, I'm not really excited about this new management team in place. Maybe I'm wrong - but it could be a long season of losses with no pushback from the club.

I don’t see Pettersson as any more than a bottom pairing D. I believe he does have trade value and some more upside, but this team needs an asshole on the backend that can take a regular shift who brings character and toughness.
While I also don’t see Arbor as more than a 12-16 min defender, he brings more experience and a reputation throughout the league as one tough hombre.

CoPoHo and RyJo all started at their reveal, not weaponizeing cap or spending to the cap.
It's five and dime days

To counter this point for the sake of discussion…..
There was a shift in the team when Douglas was signed and he told, I believe it was Buium, “if anyone touches you, dead”.
That is the more complete “head up factor” that the Canucks often miss.
Hey it’s all for discussion — I’m not advocating anything particularly either, just trying to get orientated about how to price “take a bad contract”. I don’t know that DeBrusk gets a late first as a return by himself (more or less valuable than Sherwood in a trade?), but if a projected two mid to late seconds can get a little sweeter to a late first with a sweetener, it’s certainly worth consideration. If I am wrong about the Habs’ needs (and you make a good case they are lacking what DeBrusk does), then certainly think about seeing what more you can get from him if you agree to add Gallagher.
My point on Xhekaj isn’t the Canucks couldn’t use that kind of play-heads-up presence, more that why not add to the heads up EP25 brings instead of replacing it. Mancini the other way, for example.
And bringing up Douglas is also a good point. How about having that Xhekaj factor by resigning the big guy and keeping more could-develop-into-something arrows in the blue line quiver.

I thought they said they were open to using cap space.

Douglas is a borderline NHL player at best and not really all that tough compared to some others.
I’m with Topper at this point in D-Petey. I don’t see anything more than a 3rd pairing there. So I don’t see him being a part of this organization’s future when they are actually competitive.
Maybe working with Edler makes a difference and he becomes a top-4 (if indeed the rumours of Edler’s return to Vancouver are true).
But any trade needs to make sense for the rebuild, and I think that D-Pete has more upside than Xhekaj just in terms of age. So, imho, trade value for them is a wash right now when you consider upside versus experience.

You're mistaken, Mëds.
Edler was brought in to be the goalie coach.
Expect such a resurgence from Lanky that even ol' Leves can't complain about that contract anymore.
Honestly, I don't think there would be much effect if all 3 Peteys were suddenly no longer on this roster.

That would actually make the most sense for him.

I’m inclined to see the Canucks trade them all and ban the name from any future player decisions.

Xhekaj just turned 25.
EPJr 22
I'd rather Arber in my lineup than DPnot40.

This team needs some beef. Go make a Costco run and grab a Jackeye steak.
These vegan Meat Pettys have made this franchise weak and sick.

Vegan meat Pettys?
Jackeye is a total plumber who will make DPetey look skilled. Think Desharnais who can chuck em

Sure, but did you forget that this was one of the worst all-time teams in history?
We're trying to bring in skill for the foreseeable future. We've been talking about needing the kill to protect that skill, so what's DPete going to do? Get fighting lessons from MeatPetey on how to protect his chin?
KK's skill might even regulate D-EP to the 7/8 spot sooner than expected.
Cuz, I think you are one of the most based posters here. Unfortunately, your take on this matter is plant-based.

Their ages are why I think it makes sense.....
When I said I don't see DP25 as anything more than a bottom-pair guy when we're competitive, the same can be said of Xhekaj, but I think the latter helps us more than the former when it comes to creating a place where the kids can develop with a modicum of "safety".
