Iain McIntyre just filed his Sportsnet article a few minutes ago and he seems to think the Canucks offered Markstrom more than Lehner signed for. I wonder what Marky is looking for dollar wise? I've been in the let him walk camp all along, even more so now I think.
https://www.sportsnet.ca/nhl/article/ca ... ying-week/
Markstrom's issue is full trade protection. Benning does not want to give that. If he does he knows and so will everyone else that he will have to trade Demko or lose him for nothing.

Right. Khudobin/Demko it is then, and then it's off to the flea market tomorrow

To Vancouver: OEL @ 1.35 retained, bringing his cap hit to 6.9 million.
Lawson Crouse @ 1.55 million
4th round pick in 2021
To Arizona:
1st round pick in either 2021/22
Thatcher Demko
Jake Virtanen
Olli Juolevi
Lois Eriksson
Long term it will save the Yotes a shitload of cash. They get some good young guys and a 1st round pick. I’d be willing to throw in another guy like Lind or Gadjovich or MacEwan if it tipped the deal. They need cheap labour.
I read on farcebook that Benning already made his take it or leave it offer OEL. I wonder if we will ever get to know what it was?
Your offer involves Demko but I’m not giving him up now because I think We have seen the Apex of markstroms skill set and
I think he will deteriorate from here.
He was hurt twice this year at crucial points this past season and the amount of rubber our goalies see I think 30+ YO goalies are going to break down.
I understand we got to give to get but AZ needs to take more than just the Erixxon contract back for me to give all that up they need to take back 8 million in bad contracts before I start the yard sale
I have the Yotes retaining on OEL for the duration of his deal which is seven years. Eriksson is one of the worst players in the league and he’s owed five million in real cash but getting his lazy ass off the roster saves us 2 years of 6 million in cap space. Virtanen is a 3rd line winger. Juolevi is likely a bottom pairing D. The 1st should be between 18-30. Demko is absolutely a good piece. If you re up Marky you owe it to the kid to move him along, and it would be dumb to lose a goalie of that caliber in the expansion draft. We are also getting Crouse back in this prospective deal who could be a beast down the road.
You can’t serve up a blob of shit for a high end D man and a good young forward. A lot of folks on this board seem to think the Coyotes should just accept whatever Elmer offers them.

Drance & Dhaliwal: It’s believed that the basic parameters of a possible deal are essentially set. It will include a draft pick of some magnitude, an inefficient contract from Vancouver’s bottom 6 and a prospect. It's identity of the prospect that remains a point of contention.
So is Benning trying to re-sign Marky and get this deal done at the same time? Sure, looks like it.

My proposal is a little stronger than Blobs
21/22 first round pick
Virtanen
Juolevi
Demko
Lind
Hoglander
Tryamkin rights
Eriksson
For
OEL
Don’t need anything else back other than $1.25 million retained

Well if its a prospect its not Demko. Which maybe why they are letting Markstrom walk.

Jimmy (like most GM’s of competitive teams this year) is in a tough catch 22 position this year.
We want to improve the team and ship out salary in a flat cap, gate driven, pandemic season. We have contracts bottom teams want (Erickson gets team to the cap floor with coating real money) and we have contracts to move out to bring new players in to improve the team.
The problem is pretty simple. Bottom teams can afford to wait longer than the competitive team. Let’s say a team like Ottawa actually wants the cap space of a guy like Louise. They know we have to get rid of him to improve. If they take that contract now, to them it might be worth a 5th or 6th round pick, but if we get OEL. (For example) before we clear the cap, then It’s worth a 2nd or 3rd.
And they can afford to wait longer than JB, because there is only a few shitty teams that need cap, and WAY more shitty contracts.. this is not a JB problem, it’s a league wide problem.
I was chatting with another guy today, and he commented: “if there is no gate, there will be more players than money, and the Owners are telling their GM’s this”.
And then you see Josh Anderson get a contract from 3 years ago, and you realize, some owners done care.

Teams like Ottawa want dead cap, think an injured Ferland. They don't want salary back. But your point is taken.

Bennings been porking away on Armstrongs dumpster and its time for the money shot
So apparently the motivation in all this is the new owner of the yoties is broke and
needs to clear this contract ASAP. Their GM likely told extract as much as possible then take the final offer.

I don’t think they want a ferland. He is owed real money. Louise is owed 4 million (or whatever) for 12 million of cap space over 2 years.
When there could be no gate revenue, cap space -that someone else paid for- has a value all on its own.
And if this theory is correct, then Ottawa can out wait us on the trade, driving up the cost of the dead cap space.

It will be one of the left shot D prospects - Juolevi or Rathbone since they are losing a left shot D-man. Apparently the Yotes are fans of Ollie. I’m assuming it’s the 2021 or 2022 first as well

I’d like Crouse back with OEL if we are sending a package like you and I both threw out there.
