F'n biblical.
Agreed. And I would take someone’s 2027 1st or second if needed (and we retain 1/2 to make it more palatable for them)

We sell Kane to Dallas, then look the Oilers square in the eye and say “we will take Mangapane and a second for a 7th”.

Sell to both sides!

He's still on entry level no?
Yeah, you are correct. He would be a borderline reclamation project of our own though as he will be 23 this year, his development has been slow.

Subpar and inconsistent until last year, which was decent as you point out. This year he's struggling again. I'll admit, after the last 8 years with EP40, I'm gun shy to take a chance on a player that clearly had some head issues (which is what I think is the crux of Pettersson's struggles).....in Wright's case they seemed to manifest after dropping in the draft.

40 enters this because dbr mentioned this as a trade centered around Pettersson for Wright and Seattle's 1st.
Did they ‘manifest’, or perhaps professional scouts were not as high on him as the media talking heads who think they are professionals were?

Now while on the topic, perhaps a ‘hockey trade’ of a DeBrusk or Brock for Wright straight up. All need a change of scenery and a different system. Could be argued our need for a center off sets thier need for a proven scorer..
[edit] .. oops just read Leves comment. :D
Good thing you caught that.....Donny doesn't.....well.....you know..... :look:

Sounds like the Canucks are willing to retain on Kane to get a better pick/prospect.

Danielson, Bear, and a traditional JEB 2nd round pick.

I miss Doc, for his unparalleled understanding of capology - but even my basic understanding of it, and as others have mentioned - Van seems to be in a good position to weaponize a bit of cap space.

If they are able to move Kane, even with a 50% retention, that will free up an additional 2.5 million - along with their current 1 million (3.8 will have accrued by the deadline). If I'm looking at this correctly, that is basically 6.3 million to work with at the deadline.

Hopefully ownership isn't to cheap to realize this - and green lights some cap dumps for picks. This helps in a couple of ways - usually these cap dumps are vets underperforming their contracts - warm bodies for the rebuild. Secondly, even though these usually only net lower round picks, and DBR's great work shows its very much less than a sure thing, its extra arrows in the quiver, which can't hurt.

Helping out a contender move on from a 1-3 year "bad" contract, so they can free up cap space to go out and sign an impact playoff player seems like a no brainer. Preferably 1-2 year contracts, or even better, pending UFAs.

Anyone check the going price for blueberries lately?

On retention.....

I didn't realize this before, but teams can retain on a max of 3 players at a time.

It would make sense not to retain on players with a term longer than 2 years (previously I had thought 3 made sense) if the plan is to weaponize space to acquire more darts.

Yep, we've got all of our spots available once Mikheyev's deal expires this summer but right now we can only do 2 more. Part of why it would be incredibly costly to retain on EP40 for seven years.

Thanks - so makes sense to retain on pending UFAs such as Kane though - as that retention would come off the books this summer as well?

^ I hope that is the case on retention for Kane.

The rumours are circulating that baldies are wanting a 3rd round pick for Kane with retention. Deal likely to happen after Olympics.

Yes.

Kane, Blueger, Kampf, and Forbort, are the guys we should be shopping with retention this deadline.

I’d add Chytil to that list as well…..he has one more year left after this one, so anything retained there disappears after next season.

Obviously we can only retain on 3 of them, and Kampf is only a $1.1M hit, so retention is unlikely to move a needle in a return.

We can only retain on two of them as we have one retention spot filled until July 1st. Forbert is done for the season so we ain't trading him. Kane is the obvious one to retain on. Other than that really only Bluegar. Everyone else has too much term. Yes of Course Chyle if there are any takers willing to take a chance. He only has one year after this so if we retain 50% and get something back why not.
