A first at the trade deadline for a 31 year old rental with three years steady NHL employment.

Getting a late 1st is tempting for Sherwood, but, during a rebuild, would we be better off with his leadership and team focus? I don't think a 1st is realistic though. Maybe a 40ish 2nd round pick is more likely.

I want to keep him, if he extends at $3.5x3. If his demand is 5x5, then he has to go.

Oh, the turmoil of wanting cake and eating it too.

An undrafted player like Sherwood who suddenly pots 20 goals probably only gets a chance to get paid handsomely once, so i'm pretty sure he'll be going to free agency. I see your point though, he is the type of player to keep to mentor the young guns. Motivate by example.
Canucks need the draft capital.
Can't see JR & PA parting with him for less than a 1st until the 11th hour at TDD.

Yeah...30 y/o even if he signs a lower aav deal he will be looking for 7 years.

I understand Tciso's desires here but no way he signs a deal like that.

(Lame) rumour mill had Guerin offering Ohgren straight across a few weeks back and JR said no.

So start your value base return at Ohgren plus.

I've said here before I'm pushing Sherwood on every contender out there post Olympic break.

Tampa...Connor Geekie.

Dallas...Mavrick Bourque.

Getting hung up on is fine but start a bidding war and start it high.

Yeah I’d be leaning more towards a top prospect/young player like Donny says, one who is currently up with the club or close to being ready. Washington has some decent young players/prospects they can spare. Wonder if Connor Geekie can turn into Morgan Geekie. WTF was Seattle thinking?

Financially, I hope he gets $4x7. But, just not here. Giving a 31 yr old with 2 good years of hockey a 7 year deal is Trent Fredrick stupid. Sherwood has a ton of value, but I don’t see his game being any good after 34. Very few are.

So your rational thought and what GM's and agents work out are mutually exclusive.

But you know that.

I’m no GM but usually when I rent something I’m not terribly concerned about what it did three years ago or what it’ll be doing three years from now.

That said, barring a fluke in the market I think we’d need to add to get a first round draft pick for Kief and if that’s possible the team should do it - whether that’s another useful rental like Blueger or essentially doing a pick swap.

Based on what teams have paid in the past for deadline rentals, Sherwood should easily fetch a late 1st, given his level of play in Vancouver. Blueger and Forbort need to get fucking healthy and flipped for 3rd and 4th round picks.

I like the idea of either Bourque or Geekie for Sherwood like Lever suggested.

Elliotte Friedbeans is suggesting the Sharks are interested in Sherwood, suggesting Edmonton’s 2026 1st and Musty/Bystedt

Well if I knew who that was I guess I could form an opinion.

Musty and Bystedt are both forwards. 20 and 21 respectively. Both 1st round picks. Both are rocking the AHL. I'd take that deal in a heart beat, based on their stats. But I don't know anything about how they play.
