.....he's been better than the previous 18 months but he's not been above average, he is not a #1 centre as some claim (at least on a team with any Cup aspirations) and he is not an overall game in game out difference maker.

His skating (like Boesers) would, at this time, suggest poor long term roi benefit in a league where wheels are becoming increasingly important.

They should move him if they can.

I’m more inclined to flip Rossi before the rest of the league finds out he isn’t that good without Boldy and Kaprizov.
He was getting West Coast Express Morrison type results between Naslund and Bertuzzi.
If the Canucks get offered a younger prospect and a 2027 first, make the trade.

I'm right there with you on Rossi. I find him to be a little bit lazy out there, too.

I'm sure the league has a pretty good book on him by now.

If this young team is meeting expectations in the next few years (ie. slightly below mushy), then you are actually losing value by keeping a guy in his absolute prime while going nowhere.

It would make sense to keep the contract if we're trying to get to the cap floor, butt that's not the case.

With all the documented drama between all of the actors involved, keeping the stench around that no amount of febreeze will hide is not conducive to where this young team needs to go (that would be upwards). Rip the bandaid off.

Would be thrilled if EP wanted to waive to another team of his choice for family reasons or whatever.

JPP, I know you guys got beef, but trust me, Mëds will always have friends here... as will you.

Thanks Pal, and the beef with Mëds is just that. I see posters bringing their best, providing news, insight and analysis. Then he just lays it at a value of one player. Its a team game. And the owners pay the salaries.

The issue is, I also understand the need for a top end centre. Why not keep him until we can draft his replacement. No one is giving Van a top end center in return. If you take away his $$$ he is better than a lot of Centerman in this league.

Cap dollars mean nothing in a rebuild. In fact it shouldn't. If you are capped out and rebuilding, you are doing it wrong.

His contract isn't the issue. Its a dog whistle for people like Mëds who can't see the bigger picture, or a reality of trading a damaged asset.

To be honest, I didn't always want to interact with certain folks, including Mëds. (Damn, have you ever been in Canucks Central? The Corner is nothing in comparison.) Soon, I just realized we were just a bunch of old, grumpy fuckers and even the disagreements get tempered once you know the poster more and engage more.

Like, you and I don't always agree... ESPCIALLY on Petey (GD, I hate that gay nickname), but we don't always gotta tangle, right?

Y'know, you can always take hiatuses like I, Don, Blob, Dude and many others did and still do.

Why is he a problem? Because of the contract? Or because of something else? I mean, you say it's not the $$$.

If it's because of attitude and work ethic, then is that not a problem for a rebuilding team that needs quality character to mentor young up and comers?

You say his contract isn't the issue? I fail to see how it is not. If he was being paid $8M per, and pumping his current rate and providing his current level of defensive play, several things would be true.....

1. He would be a very, very, good 2C on a team that could then afford to shell out 8 figures for a legitimate 1C.

2. He would be a desirable asset that other teams would look at without the need for the team to retain.....should the desire/need arise to move him.

3. He would be someone producing to to a level commensurate to his contract, and such a player, with his observably high hockey IQ would be useful for young players trying to find their way in the bigs.

Which is it? The contract or the player? Or is it both?
