On a team with, I don't know, maybe stronger leadership coming from somewhere else, or a different culture, or a different coach, or a differently constituted young Swedish centre, Miller probably is the better value. But on the Canucks team they had at that point, Horvat was worth $500K more.
Still disagree.

With Horvat, instead of Miller, we don’t have the 2023-24 season.
Somewhere in NW BC trying (yet again) to trade a(nother) Swede…..

A season in which they still didn't win anything of consequence.

But it's impossible to say whether they would have gotten more for Miller, how much that player (or players) would have contributed, and whether EP40 would have been more effective in such circumstances.

Plus, they'd be much better off this season.

Ha. So true.

Here we are lamenting about what we, in our perpetual acceptance of mediocrity, view as a successful season worth celebrating.

The reality is that was just another failure and should be more or less forgotten.

All these assets are middling and meh. I'm all in on a tear down rebuild.

What? Rolling seven canisters of CN-20 and nerve-gassing the joint wouldn’t be enough?

When the team is battling injuries to top players like now...
There is a tendency to treat injuries like they are entirely a matter of bad luck, and sure, there is certainly a random component. But at the NHL level, durability (or situational awareness, or both) is part of the athletic skill set.

It's kind of like shooting percentage: over the short term it is subject to statistical anomalies, but over the long term, genuine snipers will have a higher percentage than guys who throw it in the general direction of the net and hope. (Not to say that throwing it on net an hoping isn't sometimes the best play available.)

The Canucks have some less robustly constructed people at the top of their talent pool, and at least one whose "head on a swivel" skills are below professional standard. Over the course of season, they should expect to lose more man-games to injury.
Well said.

Thank you Jimmy!
Seeing how Horvat is playing and just his general overall class and professionalism he was obviously the centre we should’ve kept…
Gonna have to go ahead and disagree with you on this one Chef.

At the time Horvat was looking to be exactly what he is now: A 30G/60P center who excels in the faceoff circle and plays a 200 foot game with 10 or so of his goals coming on the PP. He was not showing himself to be a guy who made his wingers better, at least not at a 1C level.

Miller was showing himself to be the same player, but 20 points more productive, and actually capable of carrying his line and driving play.

JT signed for the $500K less than Horvat was asking (and ultimately got from the Islanders.

That was probably the best contract decision they have made since taking the reins here.
I’m looking at the big picture, the outcome while we look back on the choices management made that put us in the position we are in now. I couldn’t care less about a point in history as a way to justify their decision making. It’s about where we are now after it all.

Looking at these three Centerman “now” and the trade results with two of them and the mess our centre position is currently at? I do not see how one can justify that Bo wasn’t the one to keep.

Same old drivel shit we’ve seen after same old drivel shit from every management incarnation under the Aqualini ownership. Such a maddening interview with Allvin last night. How many times have we heard this crap?

https://x.com/CanucksArmy/status/198740 ... 04730?s=20

My favourite part of the interview is when it was pointed out to Allvin three western conference teams who had recently torn it down and rebuild are now ahead of the Canucks in the standings - Chicago, San Jose, Anaheim.

Same stock answer bullshit, why we have to be the stupidest organization in the league is beyond me.

Did you not feel like you were listening to every past GM under the Aqualini ownership during that interview? I swear to god I felt like I was watching a rerun.

There is no hope for this organization. It’s fucking weird to be honest.

That sad thing is the way they fought in court to wrest it away from a good owner. It feels like a curse.

But I'm not going to let it get me down; it's time to have fun with it again.
