Yeah and the contracts given take OEL to age 36 and Tanev to age 40.

OEL already returned to the "the player he was in Vancouver" towards the end of last season.
Oh he started the season well while Ekblad and Montour were on the shelf
... averaging around 24-25 minutes in the first 16 games while those two were out.
But his icetime declined steadily after that.. and he averaged just 15:27 in the playoffs
No goals and just 5 assists in his last 26 regular season games.
Just 2 goals and 4 assists in 24 playoff games.
He's a bottom pairing guy now and will be 33-years-old this month.
Ridiculous contract to give a guy like that.
Tanev's contract is also ridiculous at age 34.
They also re-signed Liljegren at $3M x 2... twice what he's worth.
Now Hakanpää at $1.5 x 2 was a very solid signing.
Stolarz at $2.5 x 2 was decent, but going with 2 backups in net is dumb.
They tried to get a true #1 in Markstrom, but failed, so they settle for a career backup?
Neither Woll nor Stolarz have ever played more than 28 games in a single season, so this is a huge gamble.
And speaking goaltending gambles, they extended Woll at $3.66 x 3.
Woll, who has played a grand total of 38 NHL games.
So I'm not sure they've improved their defense + goaltending much
... and they're running back the same forward group minus Bertuzzi.
They tried to get Marner to waive, but he won't, so same old I guess.
Marner will be a major distraction this year and if he falters at all the boo birds will be out in full force.
Yeeeeup, I'm one happy camper!
