There's a pretty good 19-yo kid in Brynäs, Lucas Pettersson C/LW. I assume he'll make the cut for the World Juniors.
Unfortunately Anaheim already drafted him, but maybe the Nucks could trade for him, in order to get another Pettersson?
Born in Örnsköldsvik to boot, so clearly Canuck material! 64 points in 60 international junior games at the 17-19 year level.

Vancouver, Chicago and Carolina didn’t know what they had in Forsling until Forsling woke up 8 years after he was drafted in the 5th round in 2014. Florida took a chance on him and snapped him off waivers and the kid finds a home, finally.

If they're not going to build an exciting roster, perhaps they can increase the entertainment value by creating challenges for the play-by-play announcers.
See if they can persuade him to change his name to 'Elias' before they make a play for him, though.

Forsling was drafted in 2014 and made it full time in 2020. Apparently that is 8 years. He twice played for Sweden's WJ team, and I think was top D man at one. He stayed in Sweden and played two years in the SHL and came over in 2016 as a 20 year old. He got into 40 games as a rookie on a top team in the league. Over three seasons as Chicago started to age out he split his seasons between Chicago and Rockford.
Chicago lost him on waivers to Carolina. As a 23 year old he doesn't crack the league's deepest D and has a very good AHL season and gets claimed by Florida and has been a regular ever since as a 24 year old. Carolina had no room for him. Chicago shit their pants with this kid. Elmer was a buffoon because the kid had potential. Everyone but Elmo and Stan Bowman knew this kid could play.

I said it depends on your standards for elite, so I can't complain if you want 50/50 to be your standard. I don't share it, but I can't dismiss it as irrelevant or unreasonable. I agree that everyone on that list is elite, though not necessarily a power forward. (Certainly not Gretzky, and I wouldn't say Hull or Bossy, either.)
I don't think Neely was as good as Ovechkin has been. I suppose I would get an argument from Mrs. Neely, but I think she'd be the only one.
Edit: by that standard, the only other elite power forwards ever have been Maurice Richard and Mario Lemieux, so not even Gordie Howe, Peter Forsberg, or Brendan Shanahan. I said I couldn't dismiss it, but I think that's evidence that it maybe isn't the best metric. Would you really have Cam Neely ahead of any of those guys, or Iginla, or Lindros ?

The Neely trade was horrendous. To say his numbers weren't very good in Vancouver is a bit misleading. He had 51 goals in less than 3 full seasons in Vancouver playing on the 3rd and 4th lines behind Tony Tanti and Stan Smyl. He was 18 - 20 at the time. They threw in the 87 1st.
It was a putrid trade. Worst trade the franchise has ever made. The Tiger trade, the Korab trade were also rancid. The Forsling debacle will likely be one of the team's worst. Weibo still thinks that it was a good deal.

He was traded mainly because Tom Watt didn't like him, and Jack Gordon was an idiot. The fans were not happy with the trade when it was made. And that was before we found out that Pederson was disabled.

Chicago Blackhawks traded Gustav Forsling's signing rights to the Carolina Hurricanes in 2019, along with Anton Forsberg, for Calvin de Haan and Aleksi Saarela. Forsling was waived by the Hurricanes in 2021 and claimed by the Florida Panthers 7 years after he was drafted by Vancouver in 2014. I was off by a year.

He played the Covid season with FLA. So 6 1/2 seasons is more accurate. You depicted him as a scrub that took forever to make it. He was a well thought of as a prospect in Sweden when he came over. He was 20 with 2 SHL seasons and 2 WJC under his belt. Who knows if the fat puke didn't trade him for Clendenning he might have made the 16/17 Canucks right off the hop. Hard to not seeing him beat out Finger Nails Tryamkin or Goofy Hutton or Phyllis Larson for a spot. As it is he got in a half season on a top team. He was a young kid adjusting to a new country and a different ice sheet. It's like you are oblivious to the fact he played three half seasons as a kid in Chicago and got buried on an elite team.
He has been a regular since he was 24. I'll say it was a good draft pick but a couple horrid moves by Vancouver and Chicago. You need to clean Benning coiler off your face.

Drafted 126th overall, many many teams passed on him multiple times. Regardless, Carolina waiving him on January 9th 2021 seven years after we drafted him in June of 2014 is the bigger travesty. He was much closer to a known known then at 25 than when we had him 7 years prior. His breakout season was 2021-22
