The problem with putting tariffs on goods coming from the USA, is that it's Canadians that are paying for them. Rather than tariffs, just increase the prices we charge the USA for our exports. The difference is that it will be the Americans that are paying more rather than the Canadians. As Topper pointed out in one of his posts, it isn't that easy to do. Price increases would have to be strategic, to exports that are not easily replaced by the USA.

The conflict in Ukraine has really exposed the need for the US (and other Western countries) to get the factories humming again, at least in the defense sector. It's been a stark wake-up call. I have to believe that this is at least part of it. The reindustrialization was actually underway under the Biden regime, but it wasn't widely discussed.
An urgent national security issue, though, not an economic one.

Will US union labour make products cheaper than tariffed foreign supplies?
Either way, consumers aren't getting the best price available.

Interesting Topper, I didn't realize that.
I wonder if anyone is left alive with the technical skills to work in those plants. Another massive problem.

They are oft mentioned when discussion comes around to arming Ukraine and reaching NATO's 2% threshold.
The could be providing NATO compatible shell to the Ukraine.
Back to the Carney Car ... from the same folks who said they would stop funding roads a year ago.

They have reopened some shell plants in the US, and they've had to draw upon workers in their 50s and 60s. Presumably it would be the same story with these two Quebec plants.
I wonder what is holding them back?

Sitting Liberal MP and Jr cabinet Minister went on a Chinese language broadcast, called for the kidnapping of a Conservative candidate in a nearby riding and for the Conservative Candidate to be handed over the the Chinese Consulate in Toronto for a bounty.
Foreign interference is rife in the Liberal Party.

This election is the Liberals to lose. 4 more years of uncontrolled spending.
Seems Trump wants Carney to win as well.
