Funny thing this hockey.
Good points 'Tuzzi.
To add to that a good number of those names you list:
Tanev
Markstrom
Toffoli
Zadorov
...wanted to/would have stayed and been positive, impactful players yet we still fucked it up.

Nucker - much of that is the standard MO Rutherford. He operates a revolving door of players. Difference is, in Pitt, that door revolved around a much stronger axis that covered his blunders.
It's pretty obvious not to fuck around with a core of Crosby, Malkin, Letang.

So Rutherford is incapable of recognizing what a "real" core is unless an obvious one slaps him upside the head then.
.

I may be wrong, but was Rutherford one of the last to don a mask?

Tanev. That's the one that seismically altered the course of our history. If we kept him as a career player (what he wanted), possibly ...
No OEL trade, no crippling buyout, a Guenther or other 1st round player in the lineup now.
No Horvat and subsequent Hronek trade, Bo would still be our captain.
No Markus Pettersson trade, a 12th overall selection in last year's draft to look forward to.
Maybe Hughes stays and signs long term.
Of course Tanev staying would likely not follow the course of all that has happened since, but that was arguably the most inexcusable fuckup of so many to choose from.

JR and masks.....it says 1970 he started.
There was a couple in the late '70's early '80's still no?
Gumper?
It also says he was one of the originators of mask design.
He had some sort of red winged wheel as I recall.
Edit....sort of...

Yeah, pretty hard to get it wrong with a core like that in their prime.

Don't forget they had Flower. Also, Murray's Comet in his first two seasons before he burnt out and faded away.
Living off reputation in Van.

Yeah...no doubt...it's a fair point...could be why he rambles on senselessly about things he should keep in house....

Elias Pettersson has returned from an injury that kept him out for eight games, but he says he’s still feeling the effects of it. In conversation with Sportsnet’s Iain MacIntyre, the Vancouver Canucks’ top centre said that his latest ailment is a nagging injury that he’ll have to deal with “probably for the rest of the season.”

Nagging injury, eh? I'm sure it's the same one that required no surgery during the offseason? He must have hurt his scrawny, fragile wrists after signing his name on all those pages of his massive contract.
I just can't help being a little bit agitated by what was the potential of this team being wrecked by the arrogance and hubris of three bald dudes.
I'd be SHOCKED if he skipped the Olympics. Shocked.
