Apparently this is the trade:
Frank Seravalli
@frank_seravalli
Trade details:
To #Canucks:
Evander Kane
To #Oilers:
OTT 2025 4th Round Pick
No salary retained, Edmonton clears $5.125 million off the books.
My question is: why? The Canucks help the oil out far more than they helped themselves. Makes absolutely no sense. The Canucks are bringing a cancer into the dressing room, at least get a high pick back for that.
Hopefully it's to flip him for another asset.
Thank God it's for nothing more than a 4th.

What goes back?
I'm reading 4th round pick, so it looks like a pure cap dump.

You guys are always saying you want a more physical forward group with more assholes.

I guess we all should be thankful that the Canucks didn't throw in their 15 OA in this trade too, small miracles.

Ha ha, what a bunch of complete dumb fucks we have as management. I have no hope for this team ever.

What we were thinking (or at least I was) of when it comes to assholes are those who are assholes to opponents, not their own teammates. Kane has always been a low-character, "me-first" PoS who has worn out his welcome everywhere he's played. You hope he matured by the time he got to Edmonton, but he hasn't changed one bit. The latest bit of childishness - not showing up for the post-game handshake - tells me this leopard hasn't changed his spots.
I fully anticipate him checking out before October is over.
I fucking hope this guy gets flipped for a better option in the top 6.

The acquisition reeks of desperation. Apparently we sent to Edmonton the 4th rd pick we received for Podkolzin, lol. It just keeps getting worse with this regime.

Another possibility that comes to mind is that Canucks management is certain they can't land a better top 6 forward through free agency.

Josh Norris, one would hope, though it will likely take more.

That’s how I’m reading it. These guys literally have zero reading skills on the market. Their anticipation and game plan is garbage, you get the sense the other teams are just blowing them off.

Can Allvin please let us know if the room is still a safe spot?
Miller out, Kane in.

So, we bitch at the thought of going over $4 million to extend Suter, but are happy as a camper to accept the $5.1 million that comes with Show Me The Money!?!? One would think that the Oilers should have added a sweetener for us helping them deal with Draisaitl’s raise this next season from $8.5 million to $14 million and Bouchards contract negotiations. Are we the league’s gimp now?

So, the initial shock has worn off and I am still at 'why?'
The only 'positive' I can find is that he is in a contract year so Kane should be a good boy in the dressing room for this season. This also means I (if I was running the Canucks) would try to trade him at the TDL to maximize asset value. I would not re-sign him under any circumstances and even if he was walked to free agency after next season it did only cost the Canucks a 4th rounder.
