Bump. posted this in the 2027 NHL Draft Class thread.

Looking back at the this season's Prediction Thread, I was the one who voted for "OMG - WTF happened." It was just something about the make up of this team I didn't like. I really thought the Canucks screwed up letting Cole and Zadarov go.

As for this pick, keep it, I think it will be around pick 15. This draft looks to be a C heavy draft, so pick the best one available and don't trade it. If you are trading JTM or Petey, try to get a 1st for this year and next year back as part of the package.

Season ends today the Canucks are picking 14th. Let’s do this! Tank it, baby!

So, who is looking good now? TBH, Canucks need to pick BPA, they need centres, wings, D and G.

They need everything but centre is a big dark danky hole after Petey and Miller. Zilch other than Aatu “Brendan Gaunce” Raty. The goaltending well ain’t nowhere as bad as centre well, same goes for the D (Willander, D-Pete) when it comes to the pipeline. On the wing we got Lekker.

There is still a chance we could draft as high as 11th/12th. But realistically 13th OA is reachable which could land us a good centre prospect.

Landing Jake O’Brien would be a coup. He’s right in our wheelhouse. Super impressed with this kid out of the OHL. He’s passed Porter Martone on the OHL scoring leader board. Decent size 6’-2”. He’ll be playing around 190 lbs once he fills out.

Would love to crack the top 10 as that would give us wider field of centres to draft from namely - McQueen or Frondell. One hope is the with McQueens injury plagued year is he falls down the rankings to us. IMO if he was healthy all year, McQueen is going much higher in the order.

Ok Chef - who's your choice in our pick range (pre-adjustments, of course).

I'm not drafting for position because this kid will be 3-4 years away.

Right now I'm leaning toward rw Justin Carboneau or rd Logan Hensler.

Yeah not sure I’m drafting for position in the mid teens but best player available. That being said if it’s a toss up between D-man and forward you go forward with how there is nothing in the way of top 6 forwards in the system. It would be nice if the forward is a centre like O’Brien, Martin, Cootes, Potter or Kindel but wouldn’t complain if it’s a winger like Carbonneau or Lakovic.

Would be nice if we get around 10th overall but that ain’t happening. In typical Canuck fashion we will close out well (out of the playoffs) instead of tanking a few notches.

No to Lakovic. Think Virtanen.

You hope they get a centre but if they think Ravensberg is the next one, I'm good with that as well. Another D man? Trade one of the Swedes. Ideally you want a centre but don't force it. BPA. Keep building a deep pipeline. Its the best its been in years and depth is everything.

All that said, a centre would be sweet. Maybe they add a piece to their #14-16 overall pick and creep inside the top # 8 - 10 range if there's a kid they like.

Now let’s keep in mind - Willander and Lekkerimaki were what kept the Canucks ranked around 21st by most experts rankers out there. With those two graduating and zilch in the way of anyone replacing those two and who could crack anyone’s top nhl team affiliated prospect lists I imagine we are well on our way to being crowned as one of the games worst prospect pools in the league. I look forward to the next round of rankings when they come available.

Canucks should 1,000% draft for position.

There is little to no difference between the player in the area they will pick and they have to look out to the future. Wingers are cheap and easy to get in the off season, D is much harder and through trades and drafting they are good in that position. Now they need to load up on C and hope 1/2 actually make the NHL or we will be for ever complaining about lack of C depth on the team.
